Homebrew Walfolk Species Details

Long ago, on the coast of Pagos, there was a group of humans who worshipped Meera and they performed a ritual in which they summoned her to speak with them. As a gift to her loyal followers, she transformed them into the Walfolk and the Odousons, molding them after creatures that lived in the waters of Pagos.

The Walfolk were the more aquatic of Meera's new creations and the more diverse. They were long known as the most helpful and caring of the aquatic ruling creatures and held a small ruling kingdom within the Bay of Ice. They were often emissaries between the land and the sea, especially during the Great Karcharon War. They are renowned for their strength, battle prowess, and leadership abilities. Many Walfolk take up jobs as ship captains or politicians, and the more martial Walfolk are seen leading armies and serving as the backbones of the many Navies. They tend to be more nomadic after the rise in the slave trade decimated their kingdom and they were often easy and sought-after targets because of their trusting nature and great strength. When there are groups of them they follow an elected leadership dynamic with usually the oldest Walfolk being the leader.

A diverse race, with many subspecies, means each Walfolk is suited to many specific situations. The subspecies are as follows,

Beluga Walfolk

The Beluga Walfolk are the smartest of the species and tend to be scholars and teachers. They also hold the closest relationship with Meera, tending to be her priests in the society of Walfolk. They are usually a pale grey to white color, earning them the fitting nickname, "The White Angels". They are closely related to the real Beluga whales that roam the seas they do and similarly are unnaturally good when it comes to using their senses to track food and others. Their large heads give them this sense and allow them to be excellent scouts and trackers. When they are in large groups they often fill support roles and they are often the most caring of the Walfolk. They are shorter than their larger counterparts. The Order of Meera was actually founded by a Beluga named Orius and the order's followers still regard him as a great prophet.

Orca Walfolk

The Orca Walfolk are very interesting as they are not really molded from whales but are still considered Walfolk. They are larger than Beluga Walfolk and they can easily be identified by their black and white colorings and their massive size, with the largest of their species being nearly 10 feet tall. They are natural members of groups and when they are not with their own people they often will be a part of some type of group. They are highly capable warriors and are imposing figures on the battlefield. They are renowned for working best in groups and a group of Orca Walfolk is a feared enemy on the battlefield. DaWalfe, a famous Orca politician, was the one who brokered the peace between the Isarian Kingdom and the Karcharon Kingdom during the Great Karcharon War.
