Homebrew Chiroptal Species Details
"The world is blurred to the newborn
Until a blinding flash
The songs of our ancestors tell us more then the world can tell through touch, taist, smell, or sight. it is the sound of old that reveals all truth"
Born into love, Chiroptals live in small isolated communities learning the ways of their olden folk. Singing songs and traveling under twilight or day to find the nature and food of which they derive their best lives. With a ping of one's song, everyone knows thy life and their love. Yet, rumors of cannibals and bloodthirsty vampires are rippled to the humans around them, hence, they are seen as vermin and hunted like the witches seen by some. Burnt sometimes, yet the worst is the dreaded Labyrinthectomy, in which they remove the connection to one's ancestors, where they cannot use their sight, where they are lost to themselves. The loss of hearing.
Story of the Elders
Chiroptals are ancient humanoids, they built temples and warding castles; yet, now they don't. According to the old stories, ones that are passed in the songs to every generation, Chiroptals always lived the way they do, and have always been hunted, so after the great ballasts fell, they went to hide. Chiroptals are furry long fingered humanoids with heavy webbing between them, depending on the subrace, has different faces and shapes. Although they all have large ears and visible noses, closer to hunchback in the spine, and a wire to soft fur covering most of them.
Family Subborn
Chiroptal gatherings are few and far between, subsisting in small communities found mostly far away from human cities or towns. When, on a rare occasion, they are found in settlements, they are often in the roughest alleyways or complexes of those places, where they grow up to be cultists or oppressed people just trying to follow their lives. Yet, they still hold a strong sense of family, sometimes going out of their way, or even across the world, to protect them. More often they live among other minority populations in enclaves where they are treated with more respect.
Only having stories of their homeland, chiroptals know that they have to make their own way in the world and that they have to be wise and loving to survive. They are not quick to trust anyone who claims to be a friend, but when a chiroptal's companions demonstrate that they trust him or her, the chiroptal learns to extend the same trust to them. Once a chiroptal gives someone loyalty, they become an ally for life, they become family.
