Homebrew Yeti Species Details
Near the highest mountain peaks - far above the slopes where trees grow. Where air is thin and the frigid winds howl - dwell the war like camps of the yeti. Unfurling around harsh outcroppings of barren stone and frozen earth they sleep in semi-portable homes secured with ropes and pegs. Outside of the folks who choose to enter into this society with some difficulty or the few Orcish traders who come to swap food and supplies for the magical shards of ice they so covet. Despite this most who meet them could easily call them friends. In defiance of their war like and icy presentation their culture values family, community, and hospitality above all else. Their bodies are thick and powerful with chords of muscle heaving under their slightly loose skin. Androgynous in nature the main way to tell a male yeti apart from a female is that the females are taller on average. Their warm hearts somehow resisting the cold environment around them means that everyone is given a place in the tribe; whether they like it or not.
Yeti Traits
Polar PatriciansCoveters of Ice
Ice madness sometimes called the frost wyrm sickness afflicts all who come into long contact with the true ice shards. One of the few easily renewable sources of items imbued with magic in the region these shards have been most recently been used to support a singular side of the Orcish conflict; however if one relies to heavily on these supernatural shards their minds become... strange. The first signs are an unwillingness to part from the ice. They may snap at loved ones or abstain from events where the ice may not be allowed in. The second is a slight chill hanging around them. This change is often hard to spot in their icy homes. The third is a physical dependency on the ice. When separated from it the afflicted may experience vomiting, loss of apatite, inability to consume water, foaming at the mouth, irritability, physical exhaustion, and death. The fourth and final is a form of stark raving madness. It has been observed that momentary clarity can still be regained with a sudden separation from the ice at this stage, but the effects are largely permanent.
Hospitious Nature
For yeti, companionship exists only from others of their race and the few peculiar members of other races who choose to leave their homes to live there. Due to this a visitor is quite the occasion! At minimum they will receive some form of feast, but more likely this will result in what amounts to a full on celebration including music, drink, and games. Yeti who have lived through multiple visitor festivals will often try to outdo themselves every time in competition with their neighbors. The only exception to this rule are the regular visits from Orcish caravans, as this has and will bankrupt any camps who attempt this. Despite their kindness, they still maintain a bad reputation. These practices are not out of any feeling of loneliness however, it is simply because the one event that they celebrate regularly is on the night of the summer solstice.
Noble and Mild
Yeti tend to be tall compared to humans and move with a self assuredness that suggests their physical might. Pale fur clings tightly to their greyish blue bodies, and some grow stubby horns ranging in color from a deep onyx to a tawny brown. While yeti have hands as nimble as most other humanoids they are much larger in size. This combined to their complete resistance to the cold gives the yeti an air of self reliance and strength. Yeti often go out of their way to be kind to others this can sometimes prove troublesome in places outside their homeland. While this can reassure their allies, it can also suggest defiance in the face of what they perceive as imposed authority or unkind treatment of others.
