Homebrew Dirla Species Details

Acting as Yin and Yang, the Kitsunes and the Dirlas often act as the duality of mankind. While the kitsunes tend to lean towards a good alignment, the Dirla often have a more wicked morale compass, leaning them to neutral/evil. This has lead Dirla to being treated by parts of society as monsters rather than people. Due to this, they tend to stick to the alleys of towns as to not be judged and discarded by society.

The Hunter's Lineage

Dirlas are descendants of displacer beasts after centuries of evolution. Similar to that of a kitsune, they have managed to keep their ability to morph between their beloved displacer form and their humanoid form. While in humanoid form, rather than having six legs like that of a displacer beast, they have four arms with two legs. They have two tentacles that attach to their back. Lastly, their humanoid form has panther-like ears and a tail to the coloring of that of their fur (the fur often ranging between black, blue, and white). What makes Dirlas truly terrifying is not their humanoid stature, but their ferocious displacer form.

Home Sweet Home

Dirlas often tend to live in villages made solely of their race as the majority of them wish to stay isolated from the world. This is due to the stereotypes that have been formed around the Dirla. Understandably, they do not wish to be constantly judged by society. That being said, some Dirla tend to live in villages of Kitsunes to protect the villages from raiders and other threats. Their preferred environment is that of the fey wilds/mountainous biomes!

Dirla Culture

Similar to humans, the Dirla tend to stay rather varied with their classes. While some races tend to have specific classes that they lean to, the Dirla are rather diverse. The most common classes used by the Dirla is the Rogue class, the Fighter class, the Barbarian class, and the Blood Hunter class. This variation is due to their heavily miscellaneous body types. While more brutish Dirla tend to gaze upon the Barbarian, Fighter, and Blood Hunter class, leaner Dirla tend to migrate to the Rogue and Monk class!

The ability to hunt is heavily valued by the Dirla. Whether it being a simple hunt for food or to the extremes of tracking down an enemy, they adore the thrill of a good chase. Because of this love for the hunt, they tend to grow a plethora of crops so they may feed the creatures near them. Creatures close to extinction are often protected by Dirla as they wish to keep the creatures abundant. After all, without a variety of choices for the traditional hunt, the thrill would eventually die off.

Festivals are constantly thrown by Dirla villages. While they may appear barbaric, even monstrous to some parts of society, they tend to be simply misunderstood. The festivals are a good display of that. Cheers and laughter can always be heard outside their villages when a festival is underway. Displays of dance and song often play a key part in their festivals alongside crafted floats and decorations. Food and drinks are passed around the village to celebrate the occasion!

Dirla Names

Mirroring that of the kitsunes, Dirla tend to have Japanese and Fey based names counting on where they are born. Dirla born in the feywilds are often given more fey like names whereas Dirlas born into a kitsune village or outside of the feywilds tend to have more traditional Japanese based names.

Misunderstood, but Resilient

The idiotic and the ignorant glance upon the Dirla and only see the ancestors they came from. Not everything is black and white, the Dirla come in many shapes, sizes, and personalities. They were gifted with the abilities of their ancestors and with it, they carve their destiny. As a wise man once said: "Never trust a book by its cover."

Dirla Traits

Dirlas share certain racial traits as a result of Displacer ancestory!

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score increases by 1, and your Strength score increases by 2.

Age

Dirlas mature at the same rate as kitsunes but live for 700 years.

Size

Similar to Kitsunes, Dirlas often stand around 4 to 5 feet tall and weight around 150 lbs. on average. They commonly fall in the small/medium category.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 40 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your displacer heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Abyssal, and Sylvan! :3

Displacer Legacy

At third level, you get past your kitten phase and learn the spell blur. Your displacer ancestors would commonly create illusions of themselves in multiple areas within a 10 ft vicinity of them to increase their chances of survival. Similar to them, you would learn to vibrate the cells in your body strong enough to create an illusion of you, giving the enemy disadvantage of attacks until you are hit or your movement is reduced to 0!

Displacer Form

You can shift between your humanoid form and your displacer form at will. This does not take any actions and can be used as a reaction if dm allows it. If the Dirla is not older than 50 years, the form will be more of that of a displacer kitten rather than a beast! :3

(Stats and attacks will be completely by dms discretion. Displacer beasts are naturally strong animals/beasts so using a normal displacer beast monster sheet as a level 2 might prove to be a bit...well...broken. Speak with your dm on how they wish to run it!)

Beast's Resistance

Similar to that of a displacer beast, you are born with resistance to poison! Even the finest of lsd will struggle against you! :D

Natural Hunter

u sneak real good. proficient you are mmm yes...you are born with proficiency in stealth

Natural Dual Wielders

While the higher arms attached directly to the shoulder are strong enough to wield heavier weapons, the bottom arms can only handle weapons with that of the light property! You could choose to use the bottom arms to duel wield two great weapons, or wield two light weapons with two weapons without the light property! Example: two daggers being wielded by the lower arms with a bow being used by the top or two long swords, ect. Obviously, this is to the dms discretion!
