Homebrew Dragonblood Species Details

A women sits quietly in a tavern as the world continues on around her. What once was a life of calm and humble beginnings had changed long ago. She was born as any other lady of her lineage, with fine brown hair and grey eyes. However, as she grew, she found her body slowly changing. For a time, she thought abyssal monstrosities and horros where causing it. Over time she gre horns, and scales began to pepper her body in patches. Now she sits with only her face showing.

Be proud, she had read in the diary of a her long distant grandfather. You are the decended of golden dragons. A life of curse, and of power. Of running and of glory. So many paths to choose from, to embrace her gift, or to reject it. The world was hers, she was simply paralized by the choices.

Those of the dragonblood race are- well- those with dragon blood within them. For some, they go their entire life without knowing, and just pass on the gift, or perhaps the curse, down the bloodline. There seems to be no solid distinction on when the traits may appear in the offspring. Some may be born with dragon tails or may grow horns as a child, some may get patches of scales only months before their deathbed, and some may never know at all. One thing is for sure, their variety is only infinitely multiplied when one considers the daunting amounts of dragons within the world.

A Dragonblood Can Appear Anywhere

Any race has the possibility to create a dragonblood offspring as long as they have dragon lineage somewhere in the family history, or, by other means. The dragonblood are born looking much like their non-dragon parent. An elf and a blue dragon would make an elf with blue dragon features. A satyr with crystal dragon lineage may have a dazzling crystalized horn or hoofs. The possibilities are endless. A dragonblood will only ever take after one specific dragonic parent, even if several dragons are within their family line.

Hiding The Dragonbloods

Due to their affinity for great evil, or great good, many consider it an easier task to simply eliminate them before they become an issue. Like tieflings, their sometimes monstrous appearance can lead to difficulties as a child. Sharp teeth, horns, tails or claws, often make them the subject of ridicule or bullying among their peers and adults around them. It's not uncommon for dragonbloods to either be overly sheltered by their parents who try to save them from a cruel world or be turned bitter by a world that does not accept them. Due to the infrequency of their traits manifesting, it is very rare for more then two or three identifiable dragonbloods to live in a community unless it is a connection of families. Sometimes, dragonbloods have weak enough features to pass as tieflings, which is preferable in some areas. And sometimes they look so dragonic they pass for dragonborns.

As an action, you can exhale in a burst of elemental damage from your mouth.
