Homebrew Squid Kid / Inkling Species Details
The squid kids (or inklings, as they are often called) are a urban species, humans that can take a squid form. (This is a attempt to recreate the inklings from the Splatoon series).
Alignment: Most squid kids, because of the lifestyle they lead, are good, although there can be neutral or even evil ones in rare circumstances. They tend to lean towards neutral, with the way they go about combat being mostly lawful, but their ruckus demeanor making them somewhat chaotic. Depending on which you want to focus on, you may make them either.
Height and Weight: Squid kids are normally slightly shorter and lighter than young human adults/teenagers, typically ranging from 4 1/2 feet up to 5 1/2 feet. Their weight can range from 80 pounds to around 150.
Speed: Your base movement speed is 30, though you cannot swim. Find out more in the hydrophobic trait in the traits section. Your size is medium.
Languages: You understand common, though you cannot speak it fluently, as well as Inkling (the language, not the character). This is a language exclusive to inklings, which is vocalized as well as written, most commonly as graffiti like symbols.
Ability Score Increase: Your dexterity score increases by 2.

Squid Kid / Inkling Traits
They have many special abilities due to their squid form and ink-making capabilities.Hydrophobic
Inklings cannot swim in water, or touch it for prolonged times for that matter. If you touch any water substance, you will take 2d6 acid damage. You can of course still drink water, and have water inside your body, in a water bottle, etc.
Squid Form
As a bonus action on your turn, you may transform into or out of the squid form.
While in squid form, you may only use the dash action, and your AC is equal to 8 + your CON modifier.
While in squid form, and under the "Inked" condition, you become much harder to see, and as such, attack rolls against you are made with disadvantage.
While in squid form, if you do not have the "Inked" condition, your walking speed becomes 10.
Instant Ink
If one bonus action has already been used to transform into squid form and you are under the "Inked" condition, you may start gaining ink points without using a bonus action. Note this is only for the first turn while you do this, subsequent turns will need to use a bonus action.
Jumper
Inklings have double the normal jump height of humans.
Slippery when Wet
You are proficient in acrobatics and stealth checks while under the "Inked" condition and in squid form.
Grapple attacks also roll with disadvantage while under the "Inked" condition and in squid form.
Out of this World
You have disadvantage on any checks involving speaking Common due to you not being fluent in the language.
Brush of the Inkling
You start the game with an inkbrush, a common weapon of squid kids. It basically serves as a giant paintbrush (about the size of a longsword) that can be used to spread ink around or do damage.
- If you have ink to use (at least one ink point), you may take an action to attack a surface to coat a 10x10 square of it with ink (or in the shape of whatever the surface is). Anything that moves into this ink is given the "Inked" condition (see below). This will also subtract one ink point.
- Alternatively, you may instead attack an enemy with the inkbrush once it is coated in ink (you must have ink at least 1 ink point to do so). If you do so, your hit modifier is equal to your proficiency modifier + dex modifier and damage is equal to (lvl/5)d6+dex modifier, with the minimum being 1d6, and the maximum being 4d6. .
- If you hit an enemy with the inkbrush, they are given the "Inked" status condition (see below), and you will lose one ink point.
Enemies that are in ink have the condition "Inked" applied to them (see below).
Inked Condition
- Any creature, besides yourself, that moves inside the ink will have their movement speed halved (Specifically, 1 square of an inked surface is treated as 2 for movement).
- If the inkling is in squid form while the inked condition is applied, they may take a bonus action to regain an ink point (this will allow you to perform actions involving ink)
- If the inkling is in squid form and moves in any way while they have the inked condition, they will move twice as far.
- Any creature that has the inked condition will lose it upon leaving an inked surface.
Ink Points
Inklings can use ink through ink points, which basically describe how much ink they have on them at any given time.
If you are in squid form and have the "inked" condition (see below) and use a bonus action to do so, you may gain an ink point, to a maximum of 20. With these ink points, you can spray surfaces with ink or use powerful ink attacks.

Posted Apr 7, 2019It just ever so slightly bothers me that this doesn't have a picture. Please use a picture. It just adds something to it.
