Homebrew Awoken Pseudodragon Species Details

The minuscule pseudodragon is a mischievous creature, dwelling in quiet places of the world. Occasionally, an enterprising spellcaster will interrupt in the life of one of these dragon, creating an Awoken Pseudodragon. The Awoken Pseudodragon is a magically heightened species of the traditional pseudodragon. At some point, either the Pseudodragon or its ancestor had been called upon to serve as a spellcaster's familiar. Over time, this intimate, magical contact adapted the dragonkin's mind, granting it human-like sapience and behaviors. even after it parted ways with the spellcaster. Rarely, a pseudodragon could also be chosen as the target of an Awaken spell, granting it similar abilities.

Pseudodragons typically have bodies about one foot long, with a two-foot tail and weigh about seven pounds. They can communicate telepathically in Common or Draconic, though Awoken variants gain the ability to speak, and also through the vocalization of animal noises. While pseudodragons can bite, their main weapon is a stinging, poisonous tail, and they have chameleon-like abilities, though their color was usually a brownish red.

Awoken Pseudodragon Traits

Pseudodragon's flit about with natural dexterity, their tiny bodies fading in and out of sight with ease.

Ability Score Adjustment

Your Dexterity score is increased by 2 and one other ability of your choice is increased by 1. Your strength score is reduced by 2.

Age

Awoken Pseudodragons generally live to about age 25 or 30, nearly twice that of their natural kin.

Alignment

Awoken Pseudodragons tend toward a chaotic alignment.

Size

Pseudodragons are about the size of a common housecat. Your size is Tiny.

Barbed Tail

You possess a long, barbed tail. You may use an action to attack with the tail, dealing 1d6 + DEX piercing damage. Afterwords, you may choose to attempt to apply the Poisoned condition on the target, or deal an additional 1d4 + CON poison damage.

The target of your poisoned condition must succeed on a Constitution Saving throw or be Poisoned for 1d4 hours.

Your damaging poison becomes more powerful at 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 12th levels, adding an additional 1d4 to the roll per increase.

Pseudodragon Camouflage

Your scales can shimmer with the colors of the rainbow, allowing you to blend into nearly any surrounding. You gain proficiency with Stealth Checks, and in addition, may turn invisible for one minute or less, with this ability recharging after a long rest.

Movement

You have a walking speed of 10 feet and a flying speed of 30 feet.

Languages

You can read, speak, and write common, draconic, and one other language of your choice.
