Homebrew Avanthar Species Details

The avanthari descend from a group of mountain elves interbred with angelic messengers (c.f. Deva, MM page 16).

In appearance, the avanthari are of shorter in stature and slight build, with elvish features. The torso, however, is heavily muscled with a large keel bone to support the creature's magnificent wings. Their long, narrow, white feathered wings are built for soaring. Because of this avanthari cannot sustain a flapping motion for long, but can ride thermal currents for hours. The typical avanthari wingspread is usually 4 to 6 times their height.

Avanthari are nimble and quick, and are usually astute in matters of commercial interest. There is wanderlust in most avanthari that urges them toward a migratory existence, a need to see what lies beyond the next ridge or ocean. Avanthari are frequently traders and merchants, and are also known as great sailors and navigators. As scouts and fast travelling messengers they cannot be equalled for their eyesight is exceptionally keen and their flight swift and silent.

Strength increased by 2 and Charisma by 1.

Languages

Having descended from Elvish stock mixed with some Celestial sub-race, Avanthari are able to speak and write Elvish and common. They are able to speak Celestial but are not fully fluent as this side of their heritage is far in the past.

Silent Flight

Avanthari are able to fly silently but can only maintain powered flight for up to 15 minutes. This is generally long enough to gain sufficient height to access wind currents and thermals where they can soar for hours before needing a (short) rest.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed and magic cannot put you to sleep.

Heavenly Touch

The avanthar touches the target creature and heals it for Xd4 HP (x = proficiency bonus) . This can be done once per long rest.

Celestial Resistance

You have resistance to necrotic damage and radiant damage.
