Homebrew Chicken Warrior Species Details

Sequestered in low mountains living in nests, the chicken warrior, sometimes called chickenfolk, evoke fear and wonder. Many chicken warriors are native to the aarakocra’s originally but they escaped to “Fight Their Own War.”

Beak and Feather

From below, Chicken warriors look much like we’ll actual chicken’s. Only when they hover to roost on a branch or walk across the ground does their aarakocra appearance reveal itself. Standing upright, chicken warriors  might reach 5 feet tall, and they have long, narrow legs that taper to sharp talons.

Feathers cover their bodies. Their plumage typically denotes membership in a tribe. Males are brighter yellow colored, with feathers of red, orange, or yellow. Females have more subdued colors, usually brown or red. Their heads complete the avian appearance, being something like a parrot, chicken, or eagle, with distinct tribal variations.

Nest Wardens

Nowhere are the chicken warrior’s more comfortable then in their own territory. They can’t fly but then can glide & hover and some go as long as days of they don’t lose exhaustion levels, each 10 minutes they add one bar. They flap their wings and letting their wings hover them down safely. In battle, they prove dynamic and hungry warriors, moving with remarkable hunger and swiftness, diving to lash opponents or eat them, with weapons or talons before turning and hovering away.

Once hovering, an chicken warrior leaves the sky with thanks. In their nest camps, they have advanced traps & guards. A worthy foe for any.

Avian Mannerisms

The resemblance of chicken warriors to chickens isn’t limited to physical features. Chicken’s Warriors display many of the same mannerisms as chickens. They are scary about their hunger, frequently using their traps for food, eating and scratching anything.

Many chickens punctuate their speech with squawks, sounds they use to convey emphasis and to shade meaning, much as a human might through facial expressions and gestures. An chicken might become frustrated with people who fail to pick up on the nuances; an chicken warriors threat might be taken as a joke and vice versa.

Homelands

Most chicken warriors live in their castle in Phandelver.

Once tribes of chicken settle in an area, they share a hunting territory that extends across an area up to 150 miles on a side, with each tribe hunting in the lands nearest to their colony, ranging farther should game become scarce.

A typical colony consists of one large, open-roofed nest made of woven vines with smaller nests as houses. The eldest acts as leader with the support of a deputy.

Chicken Names

As with much of their speech, aarakocra names include clicks, trills, and whistles to the point that other peoples have a difficult time pronouncing them. Typically, a name has two to four syllables with the sounds acting as connectors. When interacting with other races, aarakocra may use nicknames gained from people they meet or shortened forms of their full names.

An aarakocra of either gender may have one of these short names: Aera, Aial, Aur, Deekek, Errk, Heehk, Ikki, Kleeck, Oorr, Ouss, Quaf, Quierk, Chica, Salleek, Urreek, or Zeed.
