Homebrew Claykin Species Details

Emerging from soily ground and abandoned cities’ buildings, Claykin mold themselves to survive. Not many are aware of the existence of Claykin, but those that are often don’t trust the race due to their ever-changing appearance and stereotyped tendency to double-cross races they believe wronged their kind in the past, which is most, if not all.

APPEARANCE: A Claykin‘s original appearance is blocky but humanoid. They are gray and have no defined facial features but are still able to see, smell, hear, etc. They are able to change their appearance by molding their body to look like another race or person and can change their color at will.

DAMAGE: Attacks damage Claykin but do not cause them to bleed or scar, as they have no blood and can simply remold around a wound. They are resistant to fire and poison damage and vulnerable to acid damage and water. Limbs and mangled body parts can be reattached and remolded.

PAST MEMORIES AND BIAS: Many Claykin bear faint memories of when their kind was less sentient, when races all around the world harvested the resource of clay to build houses, decorations and weapons. Because of this, most have a bias against other races and tend to trust only themselves. Claykin are often lawful neutral or true neutral.

Claykin Traits

Emerging from soily ground and abandoned cities’ buildings, Claykin mold themselves to survive.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and a language of your choice.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Age

Claykin have no age. By the time they become sentient, they are already mature. They do not grow as time goes on.

Clay Nature

You are a resource that has become sentient. There are numerous effects due to what you are:

  • You have advantage on saving throws against disease and being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison and fire damage.
  • You are vulnerable to water and will die after 24 hours submerged (unless your skin is hardened). You have a disadvantage on every roll after 2 hours in water.
  • You are vulnerable to acid damage.
  • You are not affected by bleeding damage.
  • You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in an inactive, motionless state.
  • You can harden your skin (Stoneskin).

Size and Weight

Claykin are medium sized, similar to humans, but they weigh more than humans. (A human weighs roughly their volume in water. One cubic foot of water = 62lbs. Average weight for a 5′9″ human is about 155 lbs. 155lbs = 2.5 cubic ft. Clay weighs about 115 lbs./cu. ft. —> 2.5 cu. ft. x 115 lbs./cu. ft. = around 288 lbs.) Claykin are about twice as heavy as humans.
