Homebrew Breadwinner Species Details
Somehow, the loaf of bread was given life by it's baker. Now it follows in their footsteps.
Breadwinner Traits
Don't take it too seriously, they don't know why they exist either.Ok When Burnt, Bad When Wet
It's controversial, but burnt toast isn't always bad. You have resistance to fire damage, and when rolling a Constitution save for extreme heat, you have advantage on the roll.
What isn't controversial is that soggy bread sucks. When you make contact with water, you take 1d4 acid damage per gallon of water.
Bite Me
Sometimes, people need a little pick me up when times are tough. You can give them a small portion of your bread in return for their gratitude. You can spend a bonus action to deal 1d6 slashing damage to yourself, and an ally or creature that eats the bread heals HP for your level plus your proficiency bonus.
This can only be done once per long rest, as bread doesn't grow on trees. It does grow on you, though.
Stale Bread
Well, after a long day, you have lost some of your bread. Most would worry that you won't grow back, and you will fall apart. While that may be true in the sense that you may fall apart, your bread does grow back! It just takes some time. You can spend 4 hours doing nothing more than light activity like reading or cooking to achieve a long rest and grow back all your bread.
Just...don't go too long without growing out new bread. Eventually, that bread will stale. Every day that you don't take at least 1 long rest, your bread hardens, and you lose 5 feet of movement. However, your armor class increases by one. Your exhaustion condition behaves differently, as seen below:
Level 1: You lose 5 feet movement speed, and your armor class increases by 1. All attack rolls are made with disadvantage.
Level 2: You lose 5 feet movement speed, and your armor class increases by 1. You can no longer take reactions, and all DEX ability checks and saves are made with disadvantage.
Level 3: You lose 5 feet movement speed, and your armor class increases by 1. You can no longer make bonus actions on top of your action.
Level 4: Your movement speed decreases to 5 ft, regardless of previous speed, and your armor class increases by 1. All rolls but your death saves are made with disadvantage, and you can no longer use Bite Me. Your fire damage resistance becomes an immunity, while your acid vulnerability no longer affects you, as you are so stale that the water doesn't affect you.
Level 5: Your movement speed decreases to 0. Your armor class is 25, unless previously higher. All stats but your constitution decrease to 6.
Level 6: The mold has gotten to you. Unless you are preserved before this stage, you die.
Ability Score Increase
Bread, when going a little stale, can be very tough, and now it has sentience. Your Constitution increases by 2 and your Intelligence increases by 1.
Age
Breadwinners expire in their late 30s, unless they are preserved.
Size
To be fair, it's in the eyes of the beholder. You wanna be tiny? Sure. You can be a few inches tall. You wanna be larger than a tarrasque? That's...difficult, but not impossible.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
I wouldn't attempt to swim, though. You will not fare well.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common. Whatever you learn outside of that is up to your Baker.
