Homebrew Dogfolk Species Details
"Who's a good boy?"
Dogfolk most closely resemble humans in thier community structures and social tendencies. Adored by by many of the other humanoid races in a semi patronizing way, most dogfolk live in thier own small settlements. They are often desired as bounty hunters and mercinaries and are favored employees in the hospitality sector due to thier loyal nature and friendly disposition.
Its a common tale that dogfolk emergered as a race when a lunar goddess fell in love with a wolf spirit after being helped out of a hunters trap. She left the skys to live on earth with her paramour and thier offspring originated the modern dogfolk race.
A Broad Spectrum
They tend to live in smaller communities in impermanent settlements, roaming wherever resources and safety lead them. Many dog folk also live on thier own, in other humanoid cities and towns. Most often with humans, Halflings, dwarves and gnomes, though it isnt uncommon to fing them in orc or kobold settlements. They friendly open people and tend to be able to find a friend no matter where they go. They can stand anywhere from 1.5-6 feet tall depending on the breed and weigh from 20 to 200 pounds. They boast varried coats from short coarse hair to long and silky, some curly and anything in between. Most resemple a humanoid body with a dogs head and tail. Toy Dogfolk breeds tend to resemble human children when fully grown. They are fairly indistinguishable from common dogs in the forst month of thier lives but as they age, thier distinct hands and opposable thumbs distinguish them. There is little differentiation between the sexes, Male dogfolk tend to be a bit bigger than thier Female counterparts and may choose to style thier fur in a manor resembling facial hair. Although many long haired breeds choose to do this regardless of sex or gender, and all dogfolk develop a graying "beard" in old age. might sport facial hair that is sparse or thick. Dolg folk have short lifespans similar to orcs so most mixed dogfolk have orcish or halfling blood. Most dogfolk dont live longer than half a century.
Mixed dogfolk can be lightly furred or only have localized patches, usually on thier limbs or lower halves. They may or may not have dog ears, tails, and more pawlike or clawed hands, altho the less visable mixed dog folk may only have enhanced senses and perception. Its relatively uncommon but some mixed offspring are born with skin colouring and markings present in thier parents, regarless of the presence of a coat.
Variety in All Things
Humans are the most adaptable and ambitious people among the common races. They have widely varying tastes, morals, and customs in the many different lands where they have settled. When they settle, though, they stay: they build cities to last for the ages, and great kingdoms that can persist for long centuries. An individual human might have a relatively short life span, but a human nation or culture preserves traditions with origins far beyond the reach of any single human’s memory. They live fully in the present—making them well suited to the adventuring life—but also plan for the future, striving to leave a lasting legacy. Individually and as a group, humans are adaptable opportunists, and they stay alert to changing political and social dynamics.
EVERYONE’S SECOND-BEST FRIENDS
