Homebrew Carmellite Species Details

Tall and Mobile

With their magical grace, carmellites appear nearly godlike to humans and members of many other races. They are slightly taller than humans on average, ranging from well under 3 feet tall to just over 7 feet. They are around the same weight as humans, weighing around 150 to 200 pounds at maturity. Males and females are about the same height, and males are only marginally heavier than females.

A carmellite's coloration encompasses the normal human range and also includes skin in shades of copper, bronze, and almost bluish-white, hair of green, blue, or gold, and eyes like pools of darkness or gold. Elves have no facial and little body hair. They favor elegant and extravagant clothing in natural colors, and they cover these clothes in buckles and stones that shine like gold.

A Life Well Lived

Carmellites can live well over 600 years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races such as humans more deeply. They are more often amused than excited, and more likely to be curious than greedy. Despite this, their obsession with magical objects and power can be quite all-consuming, and a carmellite may spend several centuries of their life trying to obtain one of these. When pursuing a goal such as acquiring a magical object, however, whether adventuring on a mission or learning a new skill or art, carmellites can be focused and relentless. They are quick to make friends and allies, and just as quick at forgetting them. They reply to petty insults with disdain and to serious insults with vengeance.

Like the branches of a young tree, carmellites are flexible in the face of danger. They trust in diplomacy and compromise to resolve differences before they escalate to violence. They have been known to retreat from intrusions into their urban homes, confident that they can simply wait the invaders out. But when the need arises, carmellites reveal a stern martial side, demonstrating skill with sword, dagger, spells, and strategy.

Carmellites have a variety of abilities which are the result of tens of thousands of years of genetic perfecting.

Keen Hearing

A carmellite's larger (and more noticeably so) and more powerful ears are able to hear much further than elves. You can hear very clearly up to 100 feet around you.

Sharp Claws

Carmellites use their long (and often well carved) claws for hunting and, now prevalent in modern times, fashion. Female carmellites are often seen painting or cutting their claws in specific ways for special occasions and competitions. These claws have damage potential, and make Unarmed Strikes similar to a slice from a dagger.

Age

Carmellites reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans and can live to be around 650 years old. If a carmellite lives to be 700, a festival is usually held to celebrate.

Carmellites range from under 3 to over 7 feet tall and have humanoid builds. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 35 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
