Homebrew Alfen Species Details
The Alfen originate from a otherworldly realm of magic. With their pointed ears, they could easily be mistaken for elves, but are shorter than an average elf and have a build more akin to that of a human. Their skin tones share the same range as humans, but their hair and eyes can take on many unnatural tones. Their magical affinity is by far their strongest trait, they can learn magic even if they don't specialise in spellcasting, and even have the ability to temporarily turn into a form made of magic itself.
Alfen Traits
+2 Intelligence, +1 Wisdom, Magic Affinity, Magic FormMagic Attunement
Every Alfen can cast magic even if they are not trained spellcasters. Depending on the environment they can either cast Arcane, Eldritch, Holy, or Nature magic. they also receive a number of charges based on their proficiency that they can cast spells with aside from spell slots. It takes one charge per level of spell cast, and they are recharged on a long rest.
Magic Form
An Alfen has the ability to turn into a magical form for a limited amount of time. They have a number of charges of their magic form equal to twice their proficiency level. As a bonus action an Alfen may spend a charge to transform into their Magic Form. Additionally, at the start of each of their turns while in Magic Form they must spend a charge to maintain it. An Alfen regains their spent charges at the end of a long rest. While an Alfen is in their Magic Form they are resistant to non-magical physical damage. Additionally when casting spells in this form an Alfen adds their proficiency bonus to their Spell Attack Roll or Spell Save DC. When an Alfen takes damage whilst in their Magic Form they must make a Constitution Saving Throw, with a DC equal to half the damage (rounded up) or 10, whichever is higher. If they fail the saving throw they immediately return to their normal form and take 1d8 Force Damage.
Ability Score Increase
Alfen are well learned, due to their peaceful nature they spend more time hitting books than hitting people. This makes them more intelligent and wise compared to most other races
Languages
Aside from Common, due to their innate magical connection, they can speak in a language normally only spoken by highly Magical Creatures.
