Homebrew Atlantians Species Details

Blood of the great. Those who had innate power, hiding, would come to fruitition after the Atomic Rising. Those who had the blood to be innovator, leaders, inventors. They all felt the same rumbling to transform them into their true forms. Once it occurred, it felt weird at first. But it felt better than their former human shells.

Not From Under the Sea

Aquatic beings that take up human forms. There is no specific definition of an Atlantian, but most tend to view them as humanoid sea-dwellers. Archetypes of their race share similarities with Fish, Frogs, and Turtles. There are more rare sightings of other races, but those tend to be the prominent three. Skin pigmentation tends to be on a blue-green spectrum, having a plethora of shades and colors, many signifying where their ancestors may have possibly come from. Height for males on average is 5'10" give or take 4 inches. Females tend to be 5'5" give or take 4 inches as well. Weight varies between 120-200 pounds (shells not included).

Legends at Heart

The Atlantians come from the blood of royalty most would say. A prophesized city and its supposed denizens appear from the shadows. They must be important. Those who are related to legendary heroes tend to have the blood. Alexander Lupin, Former president had Atlantian blood within him for generations of his family. Some draw that his ancestor, Arsene Lupin, the Gentleman Thief was the most likely to have the most potent Atlantian blood due to his worldwide recognition. Either way, many institutions believe that Atlantians have more advanced powers than Humans, especially their innate ability with mana.

Seeking a Purpose

The past 10+ years have been awkward, to say the least amongst the Atlantians, their blood must be a calling to something. But what? Some may have already been great leaders or innovators, and they now find consolidation that they aren't just faking it, Imposter Syndrome removed. But what of those who were just working class? Why do we have this blood, what is our greater purpose? Some may not know yet, and this burden to be great, purely because of your blood is intimidating.

New Atlantian Settlers

While some Atlantians may want to go back to where their blood originates from, some want to make a new underwater city. Imagine, you have this ability to swim pretty fast, breathe underwater infinitely, and sleep underwater too. Many Atlantians across the world went to the Pacific coast of America, starting construction of a new country between the waters of Japan and America called New Atlantis, one that would be completely underwater, allowing for a passive defense from any land troops. What are the Americans going to do, use guns underwater?

Atlantian Names and Ethnicities

No known heritage, or lineage of what names would be. Might as well just stick to Human names. We're still considered citizens of these countries, and I like my name a lot, no reason to change something that isn't broken. Some Atlantians who gave birth after the Atomic Rising named their children after folklore and mythological legends. Odin, Posideon, Susano. We are the royal blood of this world, aren't we?

Finlings

The ones most associated with royalty are Finlings. They tend to have more features similar associated between a fish and a shark. Pointy teeth, fins on their spine, and heads are more similarly shaped to sharks. Their skin color varies between deep blue, purple, and red. The males have more lean, yet muscular bodies, posing as great warriors, acrobats, and assassins. Meanwhile, the females are petite. Not having many curves, and being viewed more as a gentle beauty, but let it be known that they are as strong as the males, just a bit more compact.

Croakers

A croaker appears as an anthropomorphic frog. Quite literally a frog that is standing upright and is the size of a human. The first fully transformed croaker was approached what to call their race, and he shrugged and said: "Froggy sounds weird, I croak, so I guess call us Croakers." From that day on, people just agreed with that logic. Some have tried to use it in a derogatory way, but they tend to laugh which comes off as a croak. A croaker tried to bet a dollar that he could jump to the top of a tree when he first transformed, but then he realized, his legs function more like a human than anything else. This also ruled out the other name 'Hoppers' from the table of possible Frog-related names. Their swimming ability however is to a similar level as Finlings, except, they tend to like doing breaststrokes.

Turterrans

Big and a bit pudgier, are the Turterrans. Upright Turtles that are the size of humans and come packaged with no shell after their transformation. One may assume these guys to be slow folk, but in reality, they are as fast as the other Atlantians. They come with the bonus of living up to 300 years, however around the age of 80, they become elderly and as slow as regular turtles. Cobblers ended up adopting a new job as "Shellmakers". Shells ended up being the only clothing really used by Turterrans, and so shells that are very decadent and opulent were made to show social class and wealth.

Atlantians Traits

Atlantians are attuned with their Underwater origins.

Constant Need for Moisture

Atlantians will suffer a point of exhaustion every day if they do not take one hour (short rest) to bathe and soak themselves in a pool of water where they can fully submerse themselves. Atlantians being attuned to the underwater are allowed to attack underwater with no disadvantage.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity and Wisdom are both increased by +1.

Age

Atlantians reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century unless they are Turterrans.

Size

Atlantians vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed and swimming speed are 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write in English as well as speak Atlantian which is a speech done in croaks, blubs, and bloops.
