Homebrew Awakened Shrub Species Details
The awakened shrubs are an incredible species. Anywhere else in the world they must be created by a powerful magic user, but in the Yun la Grala archipelago they seem to just appear from the forests at indeterminable times. I will continue to research them to find the cause of this phenomenon. - Sir Edward Fintz
These small plant beings are the perfect companion. For an unknown reason most awakened shrubs found in the archipelago love to help whoever they can for very little compensation. This is contrary to an ordinary awakened shrub which is forced to follow its masters orders for 30 days before it can be free.
Little Helpers
Most often, an awakened shrub is created as an assistant for a busy wizard. Therefore, it is of no surprise that these tiny creatures are incredible helpers. They are usually between 2 and 4 feet tall and can use this height to their advantage. For example, it allows them to very quickly pick up dropped items from the floor, or they can more easily forage for rare plants that are spell components.
This means that they start with some knowledge of specific tools. They learn new skills relatively quickly and can help in a wide variety of settings with the tools that they know how to use.
Abundant Variations
The world is full of thousands of different fauna and flora, some discovered and many more undiscovered, so awakened shrubs can come from any forest, field or tundra as long as some small plant can survive there. They can be many different shapes and colours and forms.
For example if a rose bush becomes awakened they will still have the flowers and thorns of a rose bush. Or if they are an awakened sapling of a fir tree they will be much more resisant to the cold and be slightly larger than most shrubs.
Deceptively Adorable
Their small stature and often weak bodies present them as harmless to any who cross their path. They are widely regarded as peaceful little individuals who couldn’t harm a fly.
This can be deceptive, however, as with all sentient creatures, it is the creature who decides how dangerous they want to be. Should an awakened bush become a powerful spellcaster they are to be treated with the same caution as with any other race that has the same ability.
No such awakened shrub has been sighted as of yet, and experts hope one never will.
