Long ago, in the dark corners of the cosmos, there existed an outcast among the Endless - Dementia. For eons, he wandered the void, consumed by madness and despair. But in the endless darkness, he found something he had never known before - a kindred spirit, an old man locked away in the shadows, alone and forgotten.

The old man was a natural spellcaster, but his long years of isolation had driven him to the brink of insanity. He hallucinated vividly, seeing visions of friends and enemies alike. His mind was a shattered mosaic of delusions and reality, and he reveled in the chaos of his own imagination.

Dementia watched the old man with fascination, seeing in him a kindred spirit. As he watched, he saw the potential for great power within the old man, power that could be unleashed with just a little push. So Dementia reached out to the old man, whispering to him from the shadows, promising him everything he desired in exchange for his allegiance.

And the old man accepted, willingly allowing Dementia to possess him and take control of his mind and body. With Dementia's power flowing through him, the old man was transformed into a being of darkness and madness - a Demented One.

The Demented Ones are possessed by Dementia, wielding cosmic power that comes at a cost. Their minds are shattered and their perception of reality is twisted and warped. They can see in the darkness, teleport through the shadows, and resist the effects of charm and fear with ease. But they are also prone to fits of madness and insanity, and can become fixated on obscure or esoteric subjects.

The Demented Ones are tall, slender beings with spindly limbs and a pale, almost translucent complexion. Their eyes are large and black, with no discernible iris or pupil. They wear dark, flowing robes and tend to favor jewelry made from bones and other macabre materials.

Those who encounter a Demented One often feel a sense of unease, as if they are being watched by something otherworldly. But if they earn the Demented One's trust, they may find a powerful ally in their fight against the forces of darkness.

The Demented Ones, possessed by the outcast eighth Endless known as Dementia, have a natural affinity for darkness and shadow. Their eyes, large and black with no discernible iris or pupil, can see in dim light and darkness as if it were daylight. They are drawn to the shadows and can move effortlessly through them, disappearing from sight in an instant. The darkness is their ally, and they wield it like a weapon, using it to conceal themselves from their enemies and strike from the shadows with deadly precision. Their connection to darkness is both a blessing and a curse, for while it grants them great power and versatility, it also fuels their madness and obsession with the macabre.

Shadow Step

As an action, you can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space that is in dim light or darkness. You must be able to see the destination space, and you must have been in dim light or darkness at some point during your turn.

 

Cosmic Madness

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, frightened, or paralyzed. In addition, you have proficiency in the Intimidation and Deception skills.

Madness Magic

You know the Vicious Mockery cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Fear spell once per day as a 2nd-level spell. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the Confusion spell once per day. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
