Homebrew Aquaran Species Details

Aquarans are a race of humanoid beings that are born with the unique ability to transform themselves into water. They are often found living in large groups, forming massive bodies of water that can take on many different forms.

Amongst the Water

In their humanoid form, Aquarans resemble humans in many ways. However, their skin has a slightly blue tint, and their eyes are a deep shade of blue as well. They are often tall and slender, with long limbs and delicate features. Aquarans have the innate ability to transform themselves into water, allowing them to slip through small openings and move quickly through bodies of water. They can also solidify their form to create solid objects made of water, such as weapons or shields.

Aquarans live in groups that are made up of many individuals, each of whom contributes to the overall form of the body of water. These bodies of water can take on many different forms, from small pools to massive lakes. The Aquarans within the body work together to maintain its shape and to protect themselves and their community.

Aquaran Traits

Aquarans possess traits that allow them to maintain their liquid form to either merge with a body of water or come together to create bodies of water. It is not known whether it was water that caused the creation of Aquarans and their traits, or adaptation.

Solidify

Aquarans can solidify their form to create weapons or shields made of water. The item becomes a fused extension of the Aquaran's body, and cannot be removed by any means other than willful dismissal or any circumstances that causes the Aquaran to lose consciousness. Despite the equipment's rippling and watery appearance, it maintains a solid form that remains, even when hitting or being hit by the strongest of materials and will never add water to the environment. However, this ability prevents the Player from performing tasks that require the use their hands for manipulation, and adds an unbalanced weight which might result in hindered movement in certain situations.

The equipment created by this ability can be of any type in which the character has a proficiency, with identical damage type and bonuses. However, for all simple weapons, regardless of form, damage is 1d6 if one-handed or 1d8 if two-handed; for all martial weapons, damage is 1d10 if one-handed or 1d12 if two-handed; and all shields   Because of the solid form, weapons that require moving parts (i.e. flails, bows, slings, whips, etc.), are either non-functional or become improvised weapons.  Similarly, the moment a created item is thrown, dismissed, or otherwise no-longer in contact with the Player, the item is immediately reabsorbed by the Aquaran.

Because the item cannot be knocked out of the Player's grasp, any time the Player would be disarmed, and unless the item is willfully dropped, the Player loses balance.  Additionally, the Player will also lose balance if any of their attack rolls results in a natural 1. When the Player loses balance, either the next attack against the Player has advantage or the Player's next attack has disadvantage, whichever comes first. However, in any situation, the Player recovers balance after the conclusion of their next turn.

Aquarans can use Solidify a number of times equal to 2 plus their Dexterity Modifier (2+DEX) per short rest.
