Homebrew Arana-Subida Species Details
Arana-Subida are strange and mystical people. Living in the mountains and deep forests of Estronia and believed to be creations of Lolth before she favored the Drow, the true origins of the people are shrouded in mystery. The Arana-Subida were said to have grace that rivaled the elves, and power etched into their limbs, but their true focus is that of their craft.
Lilthe and Graceful
With unnaturally long and slender limbs and dexterous fingers, the Arana-Subida moved through the air as though they were a knife through butter. Some claim it to be some unknown curse, while others claim it is the will of the goddess Lothe in her image, but female Arana-Subida stand tall at 5"5' while the men tend to be a few inches taller. Weighing in between 100-150 pounds with males and females consistently similar.
Arana-Subida are either pale as though they were ghosts or solid black like many spiders on the material plane. Their eyes tend to be solid colors of red, but other variations of color have been noted. Arana-Subida habitually favors flowing and shiny clothes, similar to spider silk, and most of their jewelry is not adorned with gemstones but with keepsakes that mean something to them.
Emerging Artisans
Tucked away deep in mountains and forests their long lifespan and originally shunned, Arana-Subida tend to live in places most mortal races struggle to get to. Only recently, through the use of magic and flying mounts, have trade routes with these fabled cities come to light. These new trades have been lucrative for many of the Arana-Subida selling their wares and for news of the outside world to reach the elders and youth alike with what the world is becoming. They are known for their works of beauty when it comes to clothing. Fine silks are their biggest imports, with clothing being favored above all else in the mortal realm. Kings and tyrants alike vie to get even mediocre artisans to come to their kingdoms. Despite this popularity, the Arana-Subida tend to charge prices for their clothes and even their silk, some ancient rumors say that Ambhi-Subida silk was stronger than plate armor, and cost a king's fortune to get even a small portion of it.
Most Arana-Subida encountered from outside their peaceful home tend to be met as artisans, though each one is different. They bear some kind of insignia or symbol marking them to a specific artisan and are quite easily traced back to them. Most notably, nearly all artisans in the world are part of the Arana-Subida youth, but several notable kingdoms in history have had reports of elder artisans whose craft was unparalleled.
Covens
Arana-Subida live in small covens that are part of much larger networks. Often locking themselves in solitude for hours on end. Because of this, and the fixation of their craft, they will often hire servants of some kind from one of the other many races to remind the Arana-Subida to do basic necessities such as eating and sleeping. Known as a Coven Keeper, they are the most trusted, even among other Arana-Subida. The elders within these covens will train their youths in whatever knowledge they possess in order to help the youth find their craft.
The covens of the Arana-Subida will share a specific insignia or mark on all of its crafts. When the Arana-Subida are inducted into the coven, they will mark all of their crafts with their coven's mark, unless expelled.
Exploration and Adventure
Arana-Subida only ever explore and adventure when called upon. Youths take up this mantel most often, searching only for their desire to learn and master their craft, whatever it may be. Although rare, sometimes elders will grow tired or complacent in their craft, seeking out to find a new method for their craft. Rarer still, a call to action will be enacted. Many or some youths may be pulled from their craft through dreams or sighs, pulling them to a call to adventure or to assist the world in some form or fashion.
Arana-Subida as a whole tend to find charm in most any other city, adapting to whatever speed of wherever they go fairly quickly. Often losing themselves in their craft and focus, the rest of the city is of little concern as long as they can do what they can for their craft.
