Homebrew Bat'Qarğaw Species Details

The existence and life of the Bat'Qarğaw is often lonely and despairing. They are often shunned and feared due in part to their association with bad luck, death, grief, and mourning. Bat'Qarğaw are just as often on the receiving end of malice, threats, and physical harm as they are to deal it. Mostly they are misunderstood. Their fixation with death is in their nature as they are creatures created by death itself.

Fashioned by Death

Bat'Qarğaw are the children of death. They have been lovingly crafted to walk like humans and fly like bats. In body shape they take on an appearance that is mostly human. They begin to depart from humanity in that they are covered in fur that comes in shades of grey, brown, black, and white. They have the noses of bats fixed upon a skeletal faces. Most notably are their bat wings from a range of bat species; some varieties are made of bone and require the use of spellwork to be functional. Those that have eyes have them in a deep pitch black or a searing red with no iris or pupil. Some of them have hair this usually comes in a shade that contrasts their fur color. They tend to wear cloaks and black lace.

Elusive & Mournful

The Bat'Qarğaw keep to themselves, preferring to live in necropolises and forests over populated areas. They try to avoid humans if at all possible. They make homes in old mausoleums and coffins. The odd Bat'Qarğaw that chooses to live amongst humans face grim odds, being pushed to live in rugged and impoverished conditions. They often resort to thievery, stealth, and trickery to get by.

With their unique positions as its creation, the Bat'Qarğaw tend to welcome death and have a profound and deep respect for those who have passed on. They put extra care into looking after the dead and seeing that those who have gone on get treated with the respect and dignity that the Bat'Qarğaw themselves are hard-pressed to receive.  Last rites are of the upmost importance to them. Although isolated and rather grim and somber in nature, the Bat'Qarğaw are generally peaceful beings. The worst of them are extremely vengeful and cling to past wrongs. But the majority of them are open minded, creative, passive, and cherish those who choose to accept them.
