Homebrew Descendant Species Details

Cast aside by their own gods, the descendants roam the mortal plane. Their hunch, their stench, their smile. All of these are enough to strike fear into anyone that comes in contact with them. They deceive poor travellers, luring them with wealth, fame and power. They'll do anything to get what they want. Killing, stealing, there's nothing they won't do. For a descendant is a trickster, a devil's advocate.

They hate all that aren't them. But most of all, they despise ascendants, their own kind, that turn against them when they went out of line. Oh, what would they not do to taste ascendant blood.

Descendant Traits

The descendants are tarnished, bound to their ascendant brethren, like a rash.

Ability Score Increase

Descendants have learnt a lot since they were first abandoned. But most importantly, they learnt the way of finessing. For this, they speak as sharp as king, with something extra hidden below that. This in return means that your charisma is increased by 2 and any other ability score of your choice is increased by 1.

Age

Descendants live as long as ascendants. For this, they mature around the age of 18, similar to humans. They are also immortal, meaning they do not die from natural means.

Size

You vary from 4ft to 6ft, with your size being medium or small.

Speed

Unlike ascendants, descendants have been stripped of their wings, meaning they can't fly. However, they have now got an innate ability of burrowing and climbing. Your walking and swimming speed are 40ft, your burrowing speed is 50ft, and your climbing speed is 30ft.

Languages

Descendants can speak to anyone regardless of their language. However, speaking doesn't necessarily mean that they can read and write in all. As a result, you can only read and write in 3 languages of your choosing.

Blasphemy

Descendants are blasphemous, beholding a resistance to necrotic damage. However, this comes at a cost being weak to radiant damage. In short, you take half as much damage from necrotic sources but double damage from radiant sources.

The Mirage of Patches

Throughout your life, you have heard many things, but one stuck to you - the tale of a man named Patches. You treat him like some outer being, yet inside you know he is only a man. You have tried being like him, to the point where you have created the perfect image of him. A human male, who seems to be in their mid 30s. He is bald, but makes up for it in a face that looks trustworthy. He wears leather armour, and a great smile on his face.

You can disguise as him once per long rest, gaining proficiency bonuses in deception, perception, performance, persuasion, and sleight of hand. However, you can't attack anything or cast spells until you revert back to your true self.

Darkvision

Descendants live in darkness, literally and metaphorically, so they have grown accustom to seeing in the dark. As a result, you get 150ft of darkvision.

Breakers of Illusion

Descendants have seen all they need to see, so they can tell an illusion from reality. This means that you aren't affected by illusions.
