Homebrew Chahera Species Details

The Chahera are a special folk with an unknown origin that more than being held in secrecy, has been lost to time even for its own people. These small humanoids resembling cats are joyful and playful most of the times, funny-speaking due to their mouths not being able to fully pronounce the common language and usually tend to be forgetful or get easily distracted by their surroundings. They are a nomadic race, being strange to see one settled in one place for long amounts of time and even stranger to see them in groups as they tend to travel alone. Usually merchants, bards or in rarer cases curious mages just driven by their own curiosity in the world.

Chahera are easily recognizable by being small as gnomes or some reaching sizes of a dwarf. Have the innate ability to shapeshift into normal sized domestic cats and an outstanding magical affinity but the later—for some reason—being really hard to learn due to their own forgetful nature.

Short and Fluffy

Chahera are a race of cat resembling people with usually cheerful attitudes and in some cases mischievous but without a real ill will. They like to travel as merchants, performers, bards or in strange cases trying to perfection and make use of their magic affinity to improve their understanding of the world just out of curiosity. In terms of appearance they resemble cat-like features like the head, tail and paws with all kind of different colours that you would be able to see in common cats. Height varying from gnome to dwarft sizes and walking on their two back legs.

Chahera are mostly known besides for the rarity of seeing one, by their abundant and fluffy fur, which said by many who where lucky enough to get the priviledge of touching one.

Short Memory, Long Life.

As the origin of the Chahera is unknown, there have been some mages that after researching and talking to these creatures made a theory of normal cats "touched" by a form of wild magic or an unknown entity that turned them into conscious beings. Even if this theory is commonly accepted by the people that met them its still uncomfirmed but its supported due to their playful and distracted nature while usually, live long but not able to remember many of it.

As a tale by villagers visited by these joyful cat-people, told from fathers to children, its said that Chahera live between 100 to 120 human years on average. And it doesn't matter how old one is, their personality maintains the same as the day they first met them. 

 

Curiosities.

Chaheras tend to travel alone and mind their own business not minding their surroundings and trying not to meddle in other races affairs. Most of them act as nomadic merchants that put extravagant shops for a time with all kind of magical and strange items that only half of them would hold an actual value.

They tend to speak of themselves as if they were speaking of someone else and find amusing that other races don't do the same thing. Love to talk with children and talk about their travels and sometimes, depending if they were promised a good reward of just driven by their curiosity can join groups if only temporary to live "short-term" adventures.

It is also said that the Chahera can shapeshift into their cat form, get distracted, forget about their original form and actually live the rest of their lives as a normal cat but there has not been a single confirmed case of this situation due to its difficulty to prove it. Also some scammers tried to trick many people by selling "Chaheras" shapeshifted into cats.

Chahera stand between 3 and 5 feet tall and average from 30 to 100 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Your speed is reduced by wearing any kind of leg armour.

Darkvision

Having the eyes of a cat, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Chahera fur

You have an innate resistance against cold.

Magical Affinity

You have affinity and a special smell to identify magical items. While not knowing the effect you can discern which is normal and which is enchanted or have special properties.
