Homebrew Arborn Species Details
Sometimes when a creature has died, a nature deity or perhaps latent natural power in the area they died decides it has a greater purpose to fulfill. This creature may be reborn as an Arborn. After 1d10 days, provided nothing disturbs the tree’s growth, the creature seems to grow up out of the ground at the roots of the tree.
Arborn resemble their former selves, though there is a “treeness” to their appearance. Their hair seems to be filled with twigs and leaves, their skin has a subtle bark-like sheen. They also begin to feel a deep connection to their rebirth tree and feel compelled to defend and nurture it. Finally, they have a taste for sunlight and fresh, clean water.
Arborn Traits
An Arborn gains the following traits, replacing those it had in life:Tree Kinship
You count as both Plant and Humanoid when it comes to how spells and other effects affect you.
Arboreal Armor
Your skin is harder like the bark of a tree, making it more resistant to attacks. When unarmored, your AC becomes 13 + your Constitution modifier.
Tree Limbs
Your feet and legs have stiffened. Your move speed is decreased by 5.
Natural Camouflage
As an action, you can blend in with any natural surrounding that makes sense for a tree to grow in. You have advantage on stealth checks in natural areas, provided you are not moving.
Natural Growth
You no longer require food or more than 4 hours of rest. When resting, your feet dig into the ground like roots, requiring an action to undo. Your food comes from sunlight. If you have not had access to sunlight or fresh water in 5 days, you gain a level of exhaustion, and more levels each day without these resources. If you have access to one but not the other, you will take a level of exhaustion after 10 days.
