Homebrew Chwinga Species Details

The Chwinga are half nature spirits and half humanoids, typically living in secluded villages on the edge of civilization. They often serve as mediators between the human world and the natural world, using their innate magical abilities to protect what matters to them.

Chwinga Traits

With innate magic and the stature of your average Pixie, the Chwinga are perfectly at home in the Feywild.

Age

Chwinga are naturally connected to the world around them and tend to live very long lives, aging the same way rocks or trees do. They reach maturity after around 10 years and can live to be up to 1000.

Size

Similar to Pixies or Sprites, Chwinga are very small creatures. Your size is Tiny. Chwinga can range anywhere from 8" tall on the short end to 1' 6" on the tall end.

Speed

Chwinga are naturally inclined to travel over and through any landscape. You have a walking, climbing, and swimming speed of 25 ft.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Nature's Herald

You are one with nature and are a wellspring of knowledge and communication on the subject. You gain proficiency in the Nature skill. Additionally, you have the ability to communicate in a limited manner with Beasts, Plants, and vegetation. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no special ability to understand them in return. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them.

Chwinga Charms

You innately have access to some magical abilities. Beyond spells, Chwinga are known for conducting rituals and bestowing arcane gifts upon the creatures of their choosing.

You know the druidcraft and guidance cantrips, and can cast them at will. Starting at 5th level, you can cast pass without a trace with this feature. Once you cast this spell, you can't cast it again until you take a long rest.

Additionally, you may cast any ritual spell from the druid spell list as a ritual. Any spell cast this way must have the proper components needed. Once you cast a spell in this way, you can't cast one again until you take a long rest. Additionally, any spell you cast in this way must be of a level equal to half of your character level rounded up (i.e., if you are 5th level, you can cast 3rd level spells in this way but not 4th level spells).
