Homebrew Cartoon Character Species Details

"I may be small, but I've got friends that make me feel ten feet tall!"
 -Mickey Mouse

Race Characteristics

Unlike the common folk of the world, Cartoon Characters have an almost innate ability to channel a magic beyond them and understanding, almost entirely through the use of imagination and whimsy. This magic is often used in settings where there is a small presence of danger, whereas in serious situations, although they may try to keep their cool, often they will fail in using these overpowered abilities.

Abilities

  • Acrobatic and Athletic rolls will be at a +3 advantage unless knocked prone or in battle.

  • Initiative of +4 given as a racial bonus.

  • Once daily, can give a pep talk or play a musical instrument to use Bardic Inspiration for one party member per spell level (max 4 party members once daily)

  • If in battle against another cartoon character, temporarily loses Initiative bonus and must roll for Frightened status before rolling Initiative. On a save, rolls Initiative without bonus as normal. On a failed save, rolls Initiative without bonus with disadvantage.

  • Each Cartoon Character is allowed to equip one Wondrous Item at the start of their adventure. Wondrous Item is subject to DM approval or selection.

If knocked to 3 hp or less, character must roll for Derealization. Rolling a d20, on a roll of 1, the Cartoon Character will begin to turn into ink and must be brought to a piece of paper within 5 rounds or 5 saving throws. On a maximum of 3 failed saves, the character will fully dematerialize into ink and be lost unless summoned by a master Sorcerer or Wizard.

Cartoon Character Traits

Racial Traits follow those of humans, but all Cartoon Characters start with Common, Halfling, and Celestial.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

A halfling reaches adulthood at the age of 20 and generally lives into the middle of his or her second century.

Size

Halflings average about 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Lucky

When you roll a 1 on the d20 for an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.

Brave

You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Halfling Nimbleness

You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Halfling. The Halfling language isn’t secret, but halflings are loath to share it with others. They write very little, so they don’t have a rich body of literature. Their oral tradition, however, is very strong. Almost all halflings speak Common to converse with the people in whose lands they dwell or through which they are traveling.
