Homebrew Broken Lords (V2) Species Details

Once a mighty nation of knights, builders, architects, and aristocrats that was ruled by a code of honour, virtue, and justice, the Broken Lords empire was over come by a great sickness. And in their desperation they turned to a form of magic that twisted them into the very things they had sworn to wipe from this world. They are not truly human any more, not requiring any physical sustenance, to heal they must consume dust or the souls of others. This has turned out to be both a blessing an a curse. They can heal themselves at an astonishingly fast speed compared to other races, they do not tire or need to worry about food or sleep or water. But there are very few Broken Lords who do not feel the great weight this form takers on their souls and morals. This great guilt drives them on a constant search for a way to break their curse and free themselves from the need to feed on others. Although every Broken Lord eventually asks themselves the question: If they were to find a cure, would they give up the great power this form gives them?

Eternal Knights
Broken Lords all wear golden coloured human shaped armour with red cloaks, although despite this uniformity there is much variety in their ranks. Simple foot soldiers and even many cavalry have identical armour, helmets, and capes, but the higher they rise on the races social, political, or militaristic ranks the more decoration and variety they add to their appearance. "The more human they look the less human they are." Is a saying some have about them, and although not all high ranking Broken Lords embody the cruelty this saying describes, they all do have a far more human appearance to their helmets then their lower ranked brothers and sisters. Although more human should not be conflated with human. Even the most human looking helmets of the Broken Lords often lack mouths, are greatly lacking detail, and are very simplified. This coupled with the constant stream of cold blue energy wafting from their eyes and joints like smoke, a Broken Lord strikes a haunting sight to most people of Auriga.

Soul Of Chivalry
All Broken Lords were originally either knights or were immersed in the culture and life style of knights, and thus are deeply religious to the god known as the Almight, this also drives them to hold the beliefs of vanquishing evil, defending the innocent, living and fighting with honour and devotion to their oaths and promises. But the weather of time, greed, despair, and hunger has worn away at quiet a few of them. Some are simply more willing to see the world in more shades of grey, whilst others give in completely to their appetite for power and souls becoming monsters who would horrify their former selves. This struggle is seen by some as a very human response and a tragedy, whilst many others see it as proof that the Broken Lords are nothing more then monsters. No matter the reaction to the curse, the Broken Lords souls are practically still human, and thus share the same ambitious drive they do.
