Homebrew Wendigo Species Details

"I'll never forget that night. It was so serene, like a dream. Snow littered the ground, and the woods were completely silent. I was sitting quietly, bow next to me, hoping to get some deer as a treat for my daughter. A slight crunch caught my attention as i scrambled for my bow. I saw the shadow of antlers in the distance as I thanked the gods for a good buck. In my foolishness, I never looked closer before I fired. It thunked into it's flesh, and I stood to collect my prize, but something was wrong. The deer began to rise, as I noticed it wasn't a deer at all. With angered eyes, the monster looked at me, pained and angry at being attacked. It howled, a sickening thing that I remember to this day. I could do nothing but flee, flee from that thing in the snow that howled with such hunger. I don't remember much else from that night, and the other folks tell me it was just a dream, but I know one thing for sure. If I hadn't run, that thing would have tore me apart, devouring me until there was nothing left..."
Emeth Mason, Elven Ranger.

Spirits of hunger and winter, Wendigo are a far cry from their music-loving siblings. While Many Satyrs are driven by a childlike curiosity, Wendigo are instead driven by a need to eat. While they may look similar, Wendigo are typically more pallid and will always have antlers of an elk or deer instead of ram horns. They are similar to lycanthropes in their more beastly demeanor, but Wendigos are not borne of a curse like the lycanthropes. They are also more in control of their hunger, if only slightly in certain cases. Wendigo are shunned by their Satyr relatives, and are typically considered to be loners. On some rare occasions, when game is plentiful, a wendigo might travel with a pack of dire wolves to increase their chances in hunting. Regardless of their temperament and personality, they all carry a certain otherworldliness, one that can chill any unprepared adventurers to the bone.
