Homebrew Crocodilian Species Details

Description
These large humanoids stand no less than 6’8” and some as tall as 8ft. Their backs and tail are covered in sharp spines which slant away from vital organs which can glance away blows.

Their skin can vary between shades of brown, green, blue and black. Albino Crox exist but are considered extremely rare. They can weigh anywhere from 300-550Lbs.

History
Crocodilians, or Crox for short, as a species are ancient. Crox live in packs of 4-8 called a Gore. However some Crox may find they enjoy traveling on their own. They are close ancestor to the ancient dinosaurs that once lived on Alysium. There’s an old myth among certain tribes of Crox that they were descendants of dragons and have more claim to the name “Dragonborn” than the Dragonborn’s themselves. Radicals of this ideology call themselves the Kroxigor.

Geography
Crox prefer swampland, marshes, beaches, lakes, rivers, caves and some deep water locations.

Clan Disputes
The Crox and Kroxigor tribes each have varying moralities but they tend not to attack one another. Often a dispute causes a split in the Gore (Or tribe) and one party will leave on their own terms. Discussions of philosophy are considered secondary to the survival of all Crocodilians.

Early Life into Maturity

Crox don’t get a cushy childhood even in the most powerful and wealthy of Gores. After hatching, the “slick backs” or young ones grow to around the age of 5 before taking on any responsibilities for the Gore. At the age of 5, most Crox are at least considered adolescent and able to help contribute to the Gore’s survival. Crox mature around age 25 into adults. They reach the status of Elder at 77, and at age 101 they gain the status of Grand Elder. Some Crox (Usually Albino) survive to be 175. Those Crox surviving past the age of 150 gain an elite status among Crocodilians called Kroxian Elder. (Which is where the Kroxigor derive their name).

Crocodilian Traits

Crox share a number of traits in common with each other.

Murk Lurker

You move faster in water, are unaffected by rough terrain and gain proficiency in Stealth

Natural Predator

Most weapons prove useless to the might of the powerful tail, claws and bite attacks Crocodilians possess naturally.

Hardscale

Crocodilian's size and hard scales make conventional armor useless. A Crocodilians spine and tail are where the hardest scales reside. Custom armor can be built but only Crocodilians have the proper tools and knowledge to create it. Hardscale adds your Constitution Modifier to your AC. Hardscale also reduces damage taken from behind and to your tail by half.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Crocodilians live at least twice as long as humans on average. They reach full maturity in their 20s and remain in their prime well into their 80s.

Size

Crocodilians are between 7 and 8 feet tall, have a large tail, and weigh between 300 and 500 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. Gain Proficiency in Athletics
