Homebrew Arachnoid Species Details

They have the build of a human, usually with a lithe body type but average height. The most notable variation from humans would be their face, they typically have between four and eight black eyes, of varying size, but usually smaller than a human eye. They also have small mandibles around their mouth, these are seemingly not for feeding and mostly move as an extra form of communication. In their mouth their teeth are smaller and more sharp than a humans tooth, there are far more of them also. Their hands and feet are longer and skinnier than a humans, with their fingernails being sharper and functional to help them climbing efficiently.

Because their appearance has historically drawn violence to them, this race specialise in hiding and prefer to keep to themselves. This typically shy race are specialised for moving fast and climbing difficult structures. They have an obviously different appearance to other humans unless a magical disguise is used. With their spiderlike eyes they have excellent perception and dark-vision, as they prefer to dwell in dark places.

They have a small amount of inherent magic, so all Arachnoids know the spell Web as a cantrip, which they regularly use to catch their food or to build defences against intruders.

Arachnoid Traits

Arachnoids have some skills from their adaptations such as: the Gift of Many Eyes; Natural Climbers; Dark Vision; Tremor Sense.

Gift of Many Eyes

Arachnoids have anywhere between 4-8 eyes, these additional eyes allow for them to be proficient in Perception, which is needed to protect themselves as they have historically found themselves hunted as monsters and so prefer to hide in out of reach places. As a result they are able to spot more details and look for threats passively, giving them a +5 to their passive perception score.

Darkvision

With their dark-vision they can see in the dark up to 60 feet. They can see in dim light within this radius as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. They can't discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey. Many creatures that live underground have this special sense.

Tremor Sense

With their tremor sense they can detect and pinpoint the origin of vibrations within a 20 feet radius, provided that they and the source of the vibrations are in contact with the same ground or substance.

Tremor sense can't be used to detect flying or incorporeal creatures. Many burrowing creatures have this special sense.

Natural Climbers

Climbing and evading predators is how Arachnoids have survived as long as they have, so they are all excellent climbers and can ignore difficult terrain.

Web-builders

Arachnoids can cast Web as a cantrip, this is how they catch their prey and build their defences against intruders.
