Homebrew Zoracoci Species Details

Sequestered in the deep blue see, the zoracoci, or just zora, evoke fear and wonder. Many zoracoci aren’t even native to the Material Plane. They hail from a world beyond — from the boundless vistas of the Elemental Plane of Water.

They are immigrants, refugees, scouts, and explorers, their outposts functioning as footholds in a world both strange and alien.

Tail and Fin

From above, Zoracoci look much like large fish. Only when they rise to walk on land does their humanoid appearance reveal itself. Standing upright, aarakocra might reach 5 feet tall, and they have long thick legs with flippers on the end

Scales cover their bodies. Their color is typically sea colors like blue and green. Their heads complete the aquatic appearance, being something like a fish or shark with distinct tribal variations.

Sea Wardens

Nowhere are the zoracoci more comfortable than in the sea. They can spend hours in the water, and some go as long as days. In battle, they prove dynamic and acrobatic swimmers, moving with remarkable speed and grace, diving to lash opponents with weapons before turning and swimming away.

Once waterborne, an zoracoci leaves the water with reluctance. On their native plane, they can swim for days or months, stopping only to lay their eggs and feed their young before launching themselves back into the deep. Those that make it to a world in the Material Plane find it a strange place. They sometimes forget or ignore vertical distances, and they have nothing but pity for those earthbound people forced to live and toil on the ground.
