Homebrew Aetherborn Species Details
In the waning years of the Lemyrian empire, rampant rebellions and desertions among the lower class resulted in a severe labor shortage and left the military in a state where it had little hope of preventing future such uprisings. It was out of these conditions that the Aetherborn emerged. Born from the united experimentation of the empire's brightest alchemists, artificers and aetherologists, this race of artificial humanoids were meant to fill the gaps left behind by those who could tolerate the cruelty of the nobility no longer.
Though the empire is now long fallen, small numbers of aetherborn yet persist in the world, seeking new purpose beyond warfare and servitude. Some were stationed in places distant from the central continent are spared from The Shattering's devastation, while others have recently begun to awaken from magical slumber in the ruins deep below and made their way to the surface.
Children of the Aether
They are constructed beings primarily reminiscent of humans, though their white hair and vibrantly hued skin colors betray them as something much more mysterious. They are artificial not only in terms of the alchemical semblance of flesh and blood of which they are comprised, but down to their very souls. How exactly the Lemyrians managed to replicate something as complex as the soul is one of the great mysteries left thus far unanswered by the scholars of the old world.
Aetherborn skin tones seems to vary depending on the dominant aspect of the aether that comprises their soul. Fire aspected aetherborn have red skin, Ice aspected have pale blue, Water aspected have deep blue, Wind aspected have green, Earth aspected have yellow and Lightning aspected have violet. There are also rarer Light aetherborn with pale white skin and Dark aetherborn with a deep onyx hue.
Aetherborn Personality
The Aetherborn are known for their nearly emotionless personalities, which can come across as distant or aloof to others. They were originally created as obedient and devoted servants, and as such, they often have a strong sense of duty and loyalty to those they serve.
While they may lack emotional depth, Aetherborn are highly intelligent and analytical. They tend to be very rational and logical, making them skilled problem-solvers and strategists. They are also known for their patience and discipline, able to endure difficult situations and focus on long-term goals.
However, this can sometimes make them appear cold or uncaring to others. Aetherborn may struggle with understanding or empathizing with emotions that they do not personally experience, leading to misunderstandings or conflicts with more emotionally-driven individuals.
Despite their emotionless demeanor, Aetherborn are not inherently evil or malicious. They simply have a different way of experiencing and expressing their thoughts and actions. Some Aetherborn may even seek to understand emotions and connect with others on a deeper level, but this is a rare trait among their kind.
Aetherborn are incapable of reproducing through typical means. Some aetherborn ignore the concept of gender entirely, while others adopt a gender identity.
Aetherborn Names
Most aetherborn have walked the world for countless years and have gone by many names in that time. Some yet hold the same Lemyrian name they were assigned upon creation long ago, while others translate this name to common or choose new names for themselves that they feel express who they are at their core. Those that have chosen to join modern civilization often take more traditional names as well.
