Homebrew Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat Species Details

A pair of twin goblins were tired of living in despoiled dungeons and other dismal settings, but they knew the only way they could seek adventure would be as a "hoo-man." Disguising themselves beneath a single large trench coat, they ventured forth into the world, determined to prove their worth and experience the thrill of adventure. Thus, the unique "race" known as Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat was born.

These resourceful goblin twins have honed their skills in deception and disguise, learning to mimic the mannerisms and speech of the races around them. Standing on each other's shoulders, they have become adept at maintaining their balance and moving in unison to give the appearance of a single, taller humanoid. The goblins have also become experts in disguise, using their cunning and creativity to craft an array of costumes and alter egos that allow them to blend seamlessly into various societies.

The bond between the goblin twins is exceptionally strong, a result of their shared experiences and the necessity of working in perfect harmony to maintain their clever ruse. They have spent so much time together, both in and out of their trench coat disguise, that they have developed an almost symbiotic relationship, often communicating nonverbally and using subtle gestures or body movements to convey their thoughts and intentions. The twins rely on each other's presence for comfort, support, and reassurance, relying on each other's strengths and supporting each other's weaknesses . This deep connection has a tangible impact on their abilities and well-being. When separated by a distance greater than 10 feet, they experience negative effects, such as feelings of anxiety, disorientation, or even physical discomfort. Their performance in combat, spellcasting, and skill checks may also be adversely affected during these moments of separation. As a result, the twins go to great lengths to remain close to one another, valuing their unbreakable bond as both a source of strength and a defining aspect of their unique identity.

As adventurers, Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat bring a unique blend of cunning, humor, and creativity to any party. Their skills in deception and disguise make them valuable allies in social situations, while their unorthodox combat tactics can catch enemies off guard. Despite their small stature, the twins are determined to prove that they are every bit as capable and heroic as any "hoo-man" adventurer.

This race has all of the benefits of being a goblin, but twice the fun!

Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat Traits

Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat represent an inventive collaboration of goblin twins, masquerading as a singular, larger being to explore the world beyond their origins. Their unique traits and abilities, derived from their close bond and combined cunning, offer them a range of advantages in perception, disguise, and adaptability, while also presenting distinct challenges in balance, dexterity, and separation anxiety.

Darkvision

Darkvision, 60' : You can see dim light as if it were bright light and to see in darkness as if it were dim light, up to 60' . It does not allow you to see in magical darkness.

Two Sets of Everything!

Having another set of hands gives you Advantage on Slight of Hand skill checks. More hands make less work!

Because you have two sets of eyes and two sets of ears, you get +2 to Passive Perception, and you gain Advantage on Perception and Investigation.
You also gain the features of the Feat "Alert":

  • You can't be surprised while you are conscious.
  • You gain a +5 bonus to initiative.
  • Other creatures don't gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being unseen by you.

Who's a Goblin? We're not a Goblin!

Out of necessity, you have become an Expert in using Disguise Kits and have become Proficient in Deception and Performance. With two minds thinking up the "best" lies, you have an Advantage to Deception checks.

However, animals are often confused by what smells like one thing but looks like another. So, because under the disguise you really are Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat, you have a natural disadvantage on Animal Handling skill checks.

The Balancing Act

One twin standing on the other's shoulders is how you prefer to exist. But while one goblin stands on the other's shoulders (aka your "normal" appearance), you have Disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws and Acrobatics skill checks.

You Can't hit Us Both!

If you split up, the twins can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of their turns, and they add 1 to their AC when separated. But you split the total current HP between them, rounding down.

Co-Dependent Personality

When you split up and are separated by more than 10 feet, the twins experience the following negative side effects:
  • Disadvantage on all ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws: This represents the anxiety and disorientation the twins experience when separated, making it difficult for them to focus and perform at their best.
  • Reduced movement speed: The twins' movement speed is reduced by 10 feet, reflecting their hesitation and uncertainty when separated from each other.
  • Split hit points: The twins split the character's current HP when split.
  • Loss of class features or abilities that rely on cooperation: When split, it is evident that you are, in fact, Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat. Your disguise, and any action relying on you being a medium sized creature, is temporarily unavailable until you are whole again.

These penalties last until the twins are within 10 feet of each other again.

Languages

You speak Goblin and a slightly broken version of the Common tongue.

Ability Score Increase

A goblin, on their own, has a +2 DEX and +1 CON... But when you stack them one on top of another, they're not exactly as dexterous.
They are a bit heartier, however, and they are able to notice twice as much of the world around them. So Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat have a +2 CON Bonus, and a +1 WIS bonus.

Alignment

Goblins are typically neutral evil, as they care only for their own needs. A few individual goblins might tend toward good or neutrality, but only rarely.
But Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat are pretty chaotic in their love of shenanigans, so they are typically Chaotic Neutral in alignment.

Age

Goblins mature faster than humans, reaching adulthood around age 8. They age noticeably faster, and though few goblins live to old age, the most cautious rarely live longer than 60 years. Whatever age you choose, both goblins, as twins, are that age.

Size

Goblins, individually, average between 3 and 4 feet tall and weigh between 40 and 80 pounds, and their size is Small.

Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat, however, are one atop another's shoulders so they average between 5 feet and 8 feet tall, weighing between 80-160 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Unfortunately, the other set of legs does not help you go faster.
If you are not wearing armor, and you are separated, your climbing speed is 25. You can not climb effectively with one twin goblin on top of the other.

Naming Convention and Preferred Pronouns

It is suggested that you use each of the twin's names as the first and last names and that both names are used when speaking about yourself, such as "Strias Jeel wants a shiny!" or "Banqai Bryl wants all the clickety clacks!".
Two Twin Goblins in a Trench Coat will either refer to themselves by both of their names, as if in 3rd person, or by "We/Us" instead of "I/Me".
