Homebrew Couatlborn Species Details
Sprinting wildly through the forest, Nemmonis Donaar cried in disarray, grieving the death of his beloved grandfather. Being unable to clearly see in the darkness through is tear-filled eyes, he crashed into trees, leaving dents in the bark. Without any idea where he was going or any desire to even know, he kept running in turmoil and frustration. Finally out of breath and with too many splinters and bruises to bare, he collapsed to his knees and cried out to the sky. He felt enraged at how nature, which he was taught earnestly to care for, seemed to barely have any concern for the death of his grandfather. How the cogs in time kept turning as usual, how the leaves kept fluttering in the breeze, how the stars shined as bright and beautiful as they would any other night. It didn't seem fair to him that his grandfather did so much for nature, while all nature did was heartlessly take him away.
Right before Nemmonis could verbally curse nature, he noticed an odd blue hue shine through his closed watery eyelids. He wiped the tears from his eyes to see a blue, floating Couatl right in front of him. At the sight of it, all his anger, frustration, and grief vanished, left with nothing but pure curiosity, wonder, and odd understanding. He had heard of Couatls from his grandfather, but he thought they were only a thing of myth, a legend. Seeing one before his very eyes amazed him in a way only his grandfather could.
"Hello, Nemmonis, my sweet grandson." The Couatl spoke in such a soft and caring voice, "Forgive me, your grandfather, for causing you such anguish." Nemmonis thought he would have been way more surprised to realize his grandfather was a Couatl all along, but it somehow felt like he knew all along, as if it was a memory at the very back of his mind. Nemmonis' grandfather looked up to the sky, as if he was viewing the glorious star filled sky one last time, and continued to speak.
"My time is almost up with you and our family on this wonderful planet," him saying this caused Nemmonis to suddenly shed a tear, but this time out of a calm grief.
"If you have been listening to my stories about the Couatls, a lot should make sense to you now, so I feel there is no need to explain to you, but let me ask one thing of you." He paused, brushing the leaves of a low-hanging branch, "No matter how disastrous, ruthless, or cold nature may get, I ask that you forgive it and care for it, because in your greatest time s of need, nature will always be there to help you." Speechlessly, Nemmonis nodded to his request, to which he understood I promised to keep it. After that, they spent a little while staring at the stars with a beautifully depressing mix of emotions. Then Nemmonis finally fell asleep on the soft grass unable to resist the call of slumber. The last thing he heard before dozing off being a small gust of wind.
An Incredibly rare cross of Couatl and Dragonborn, this race was brought to existence with the consent and understanding of both the Dragonborn and Couatl involved, and with the acceptance of the Pantheons, all understanding the Couatl's motives are that of benevolences and wisdom. As said earlier, this race was made by the cross of a Dragonborn and Couatl. Consequentially, a Couatlborn will have half the traits of a Dragonborn and Couatl. This combination of traits varies entirely, with almost no cross looking identical to another, except in the case of identical twins. There are a few traits that will be the same for every Couatlborn, one being an understanding of why they were born. Even with this understanding, the cross of the genes doesn't cause any automatic personality to develop, leaving what they do with their life entirely up to themselves.
Another trait will be that every Couatlborn is born with wings. These wings can either resemble that of Couatl wings, which are bird-like, or dragon wings, which are... well.... dragon-like. Respectively, they will also gain a tail so that the may control themselves while flying. Tails size does differ though. Besides this, and a few other traits, almost no other Couatlborn will have identical traits.
Resonance Amongst Races
Despite what people would think, both Couatl and Dragonborn people are completely fine with the existence of Couatlborn. They don't treat Couatlborn people like outcast, or like legendary beings. Instead, they simply treat them like and other Dragonborn. Although, Dragonborn neighbors will do their part to help raise a Couatlborn, without over doing it or even making it obvious, because they know the existence of a Couatlborn means it exists for a very important reason.
Death
As explained earlier, the existence of a Couatlborn is in hopes that it will carry on and finish the task of the Couatl that brought it into being. A Couatl will only do this when they know they will die of natural causes soon. Normally A Couatl would only have offspring with another Couatl, but in the incredibly rare case that no Couatl's are near enough, a Couatl will kindly ask a Dragonborn if they can create a child. Couatl will never forcefully have a child with anyone, no matter how desperate their situation is. In a form of a grateful gesture to this act of compassion, Lathander, the god of birth, made it so the birth of a Couatlborn would always be painless. Because of this, there have been a few cases where a Couatlborn was born in the mother's sleep.
A Couatl will almost never raise a Couatlborn, due to the fact that they will die soon. On the rare and misfortunate case that Dragonborn parent of the Couatlborn dies or is unable to properly raise the Couatlborn, the Couatl parent will try their best to raise their child until the child can either care for themself, or until The Couatl finds a suitable and caring parent for the Couatlborn

Breath Weapon
You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
Camouflage
With a lesser version of the Couatl's ability to shapeshift, you have the ability to temporarily change yourself, your clothes, and at most three people touching you and each other into the same color as your surrounding for a max of 5 rounds.
Damage Resistance
You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants. The Celestial language is an exotic language normally only spoken by Celestials, clerics, and other spell casters. Couatlborn somehow grow with the ability to understand and, with enough practice, speak and/or read Celestial.
