Homebrew Alkiren Species Details

Ever since their emergence in the realm, the Alkiren population has remained disjointed and sparse, intermingling with the races around them and doing their best to find their purpose in the world.

Strangers to the Realm

Born of Abberations and humans, Alkiren have never felt like they belonged to either group and struggle to feel at home among the other races. Despite this, many Alkirens embrace their strange origins and differences, treating their lives as great studies of magic, experiences, and the world around them. This, along with the spontaneous but attentive nature of many Alkirens, has given them a predisposition for adventure, and seeking a greater purpose in their lives.

Morphing Visage

Through intense focus and training young Alkiren learn to control their internal structures and physiology with extreme precision, giving them an unprecedented ability to adapt to their situations, as well as allowing them to change their appearance over the course of many years. Because of this, it is rare for any two Alkiren to look alike, and many others have adapted themselves to be almost indistinguishable from other small races, save the vibrant blue skin all Alkiren possess.

Despite this great variability, all Alkiren share a few traits: Between 3 and 4 feet tall, Blue tinted skin, and lifespans of up to 120 years, though Alkiren look young into their early 100s.

Because of Alkiren's variability, your character may have one or more of these physical traits.

2	Your skin is covered in artistic discolorations, as you've darkened or lightened it to produce natural tattoos.
3	You've developed your body over a long period of time, shifting its appearance to match the species you lived with or admired.
4	Through the growth of hardened skin or cartilage, you've developed solid ridges, scales, or otherwise change the texture of your skin.

 

Alkiren Traits

As an Alkiren, you have the following racial traits.

You are a Humanoid but are also considered an Abberation for any prerequisite or effect that requires you to be an Abberation.

Size

You are Small.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Physiological Meditation

You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in focused meditation, during which you retain consciousness.

Whenever you finish this trance, you can gain two proficiencies that you don’t have, each one with a simple weapon, skill or a tool of your choice. You acquire these proficiencies by honing your body's physiology to adapt, and you retain them until you finish your next long rest.

Unmatched Focus

Your biological control is unmatched by other races, and you can give yourself complete focus for a short period of time, when you make an ability check using any skill in which you have proficiency, you can give yourself advantage on the check before rolling the d20. You can give yourself advantage in this way a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Resilient Biology

You have advantage on all Strength and Dexterity saving throws.

Darvision

You have developed your eyes to see well in dark conditions, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of grey.
