Homebrew Togling Species Details

Toglings are snail-like creatures that are half-demon spawn much like Tieflings, but their fiendish ancestor is of Tog'Giloch's lineage. Tog'Giloch is the Great Demon of All Knowledge. Toglings are incredibly smart, and have almost perfect memories thanks to remnants of their ancestor's power. They tend to be inquisitive and love to learn new things, having an affinity for collecting information in general. Toglings are born with shells that grow with them as they age. While these shells can have many varieties of colors and patterns, Toglings like to accessorize their shells to show their personalities. Toglings can innately cast the Prestidigitation cantrip, and can use it specially to clean up their slime trails as they walk so they never leave a mess unless they purposely want to. Toglings have 4 arms, they are great at giving hugs!

A togling’s shell can come in many shapes! There are common ones, such as any standard gastropod shell shape, but the variety is quite vast! Some toglings have been known to have turtle-like shells, angular/geometric shells, and super spiky shells! The shell shape is often dependent on the parent species that mated with tog’giloch, but the shell could also be built upon and customized by the togling themself!

Toglings can have many cosmetic variances from one another. Hair-like tendril growths on their head, horns, plant growth, extra legs… all dependant on the other parent!

Togling Traits

Toglings share certain racial traits as a result of their infernal descent.

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Infinite Mind

The Great Demon Tog'Giloch passes on his infinite capacity for knowledge to his offspring. Toglings have near perfect memories, and thus have advantage and proficiency on History checks. at 10th Level, they gain expertise in History checks (add this manually!). Toglings can also learn languages much faster than other species can, requiring only a third of the learning time that another creature might need in order to learn the language

Giga Gastropod

  • 4 Arms - You have 4 arms, raising the amount of items they can hold at one time. Toglings arent usually very strong, however, and cant wield more than one shield or more than two weapons at a time. This trait allows them the benefits of the War Caster feat (Note: The character builder will give you a feat dropdown menu that is only meant to have War Caster as what you can select, but it shows every feat available- please only select War Caster! if you don't have that feat unlocked on DNDBeyond, just add the feat's benefits manually to your character notes.) As an action, if you have at least two hands free, you can try to grapple a creature (if all 4 arms are free, you get advantage on grappling).
  • Underwater Adaptation - You can breathe air and water, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Shell of Holding - Your natural shell acts as a bag of holding! It can hold any item so long as it can fit through the opening near the Togling's neck. While it's rare, Toglngs can break or lose their shells over their lifetimes, in which case they lose the bag of holding benefit. Toglings who lose their shells often make new ones out of wood, ceramic, animal bones, or various other materials!

Age

Toglings mature at the same rate as humans but can live up to 500 years

Tog'Giloch's Infernal Legacy

You know the prestidigitation cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the comprehend languages spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the detect thoughts spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short rest. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Size

Toglings can range from Fairy-size to Goliath size, the variance is immense! Your size is Small, Medium, or Large! (Edit this trait manually to your liking!)

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your infernal heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Hellish Resistance (Most of the Time)

You have resistance to fire damage, given that you are adequately hydrated. If a Togling is in an arid/dry landscape, their skin dries out a bit and they lose this benefit

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Infernal, and two other languages of your choice.
