Homebrew Displacer Species Details

History

Displacers were a race created by the wizards from long ago.

Culture

Unlike the other races, focus on displacer culture is mostly absent. Displacers were widely hated by people due to their status as the emperor's spies. It is not evident that displacers had a standard culture like the other races, and among the displacers introduced in the series, they all seemed to have varying personalities and motives. Their unifying trait was their ability to scheme and spy, which they were brought up learning from early childhood. Displacers did not seem to be inherently evil, and if assigned as observers were free to befriend the people that they spied on. Due to this, and the knowledge that they were on the winning side, almost all displacers stayed loyal to the emperor.

Biology

Displacers could separate and relink their body parts, and they could also graft their body parts onto other humans and animals; in this case, both the displacer and the host are able to use the body part as their own. This allowed the displacers to keep tabs on their enemies, as well as to learn vital information or force their enemies to surrender. If a grafted body part appeared similar enough in shape, size, and skin color to the host's original body part, it may have gone undetected for a very long time. If the body part was found, it could be severed or poisoned, which would cause serious harm to the displacer. Unlike many other races, displacers were completely indistinguishable in appearance from regular humans, which made them excellent spies. Displacers aged more slowly than other men and had stronger constitutions.

Displacers were able to detach and reattach their body parts due to a type of magic called a displacement field. The displacement field also protected the exposed parts of a displacer's anatomy. It seems that the use of this displacement field put a certain amount of strain on displacers. They could not separate longitudinally without running the risk of coming apart permanently due to intense strain on their displacement field.

Displacers were designed with an eventual extinction in mind, so the birth of female displacers became a rarity over time.
