Homebrew Alad'nari Species Details
The Alad'nari are a people native to the Alad'na desert. A species whom strongly resemble foxes in humanoid forms. While most are small in stature, it's known that some tribes are significantly larger than their brethren.
The Alad'nari are a tribal set of people whom have perfectly adapted to the desert heat. A society around storytelling and trading goods. Often having especially strong views on material wealth and properly maintaining their belongings. Believing in the twin goddess Ackebane and her two spiritual pillars. The pillar of prosperity, and the pillar of time. In larger towns they're known to be merchants and hagglers, yet across the dunes of the desert they're also known door "repurposing goods" from travellers who "can't take care of their belongings." This means of gathering stolen goods however is not frowned upon in their continent. As those local to said region know how to carry themselves if ever in the presence in the Alad'nari, benefitting from warm hospitality and added safety.
Despite being small, the Alad'nari have means of protecting themselves and providing. Often relying on shamans who commune with the fiery spirits of the sands. Beseeching their power for sustenance, guidance and lighting their ways to the deserts many bounties. Yet shamanism isn't their only outlet for said benefits. Often training in pack tactics and hit and run manoeuvres, the Alad'nari are uncanny tacticians who will use guile and speed to take down foes of high threat. In some cases even resorting to ancient arcane knowledge beneath the sands to wield magic. Their resourceful behaviour, is their greatest asset.
Despite being migratory tribes, the Alad'nari show up just about anywhere in the world. Their ultimate rite of passage being to go into the greater world alone, to bring back something to the tribe worth use. The value of which dictating their own measure with their people. Despite it being a pilgrimage to benefit their own people however, it is known that quite a few choose to stay across the world. Choosing lives of affluence and riches over the desert nomadic lifestyle they're born into. The tribes themselves often rearing many children to offset these occurrences. While others may look down on seeking their own wealth. An Alad'nari choosing the other life over their tribe is seen no different to completing said pilgrimage. Provided that they have accumulated riches. If they were to ever return with proof of their wealth, their people will care for them as they always have. However to return with nothing, is no better than not having started the pilgrimage at all. Causing them to be cast out to the sands again.
"To prosper, is to seek fulfilment. Wealth is a measure of ones fulfilment and is the true measure of worth. It drives us to aspire, and it drives us to push forward with a will as blazing as the sun. Whether we are wreathed within a rainbow of a thousand silk veils, or living within squalor across the barren sands. We gain and we strive further, and when we reach our ends, it is to your twin scales we go gleefully. Oh Ackebane, it is in your name we take life and death in stride. Our radiant twin goddess. May we dance with souls of fire, May we want for naught coin can buy, May wealth's river never run dry. To find fortune after life. For this, we pray to you oh beautiful goddess. We will pray it so twin-fold. While our lands are of desert sands, you give us your lifeblood of rubies red. our precious coins cast aglow to your radiance. tis under your arid skies we weave our veils a thousand fold. that our voices can be lifted high across the blazing stars, carrying our dreams upon our backs, even as day beckons the night, as restless as time we will never slow. we trust in you, that life and death will be fair in your grace, that we will stoke our radiant hearts, singing till breath expires. even in the dark we will wander unto your beauteous firelight. as all true equals we shall die, never to fear injustice as we will be judged by the rights we bring. for this we pray, oh brilliant goddess we will pray it twin-fold." - a prayer to ackebane
