Homebrew Avialumians Species Details

Avialumians are elves that seek freedom in the skies rather than down on the ground. Living in the fae realm, conjuring their magic, they evolved. their bodies changing. Growing a pair of large wings, their bones more light and hollow, allowing them to take flight. Their feet changed, to represent birds, this could be talons, or paws like griffons. they all have different types of tails, and the same pointed ears. Horns are also optional as well, not all grow on them. 

 

This race is known to be witted and versatile.

Each Avia represents an avian, born into this world their own avian is created with them. They are like your own familiar, they represent you, and you represent them. Soul and blood bonds from the moment you were brought into this world. They replicate you, when youre injured, so are they. When youre sad, so will they. so on and so forth. 
The Avia were gifted with these familiars from their deities. Mainly as a form of communication, but also for freedom. Sometimes your body will be lost in battle, but your avian familiar has some time to find a friend, or family, before passing, a messenger of the lost. 

Avian familiars have a stronger connection to magic, and the soul. they communicate with one another, relating stories of their travels etc. They also show what the Avias do not. 

They are more honest and open, Example : Two Avia strangers meet one another, not speaking much as strangers do. But the Avian familiars feel the soul bond amongst one another, they could embrace and fall in love, before the Avia even start to feel these feelings. Down the path of time, these two Avia strangers will grow closer, slowly falling in love. 

These avians Fly among you, travelling with you, not too close, not too far. 

Avialumians worship their wings, it is their pride and honor. Losing ones wings will cause them to be banished from their home, a disgrace to look at. Avias that are close may touch anothers wings, pruning or simply letting their wings touch. you are very honorable and trusted if youre allowed to touch ones wings, or collect their feathers. Receiving the gift of a Avias feather means a lot, they see you as family, or lover.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score increases by 1

Age

 Reaching maturity around the age of 20, This race can live up to 500 years.

Size

Your size is Medium, on rare occasions this race can grow into large. 

if large, you can only represent larger birds. (Ostrich, Emu, Etc.)  

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 ft., Your flight speed is 60ft.
To reach this flight speed you can only wear medium or light armor.

 

Wearing heavy armor, or carrying something/someone past your weight limit will cause your speed to be halved.

you cannot carry another that weighs more than you without struggle.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Evlish Blood

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Talons

Your talons are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common, Elvish, Auran and one other language of your choice. In addition, this race has their own unique form of sign language based around aerial movement that is less subtle than those of non-flying races, having been developed primarily for communication during flight.

Evasive Flight

Once per turn, you can use your reaction to fly up vertically to a half of your flight speed to evade enemies. Doing so does provoke an attack of opportunity. 

Alignment

Avialumians, like their elven brethren, love freedom, and no freedom is quite as great as soaring through the skies. They lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others' freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good or neutral. It is within their culture to not interact with the world outside their enclaves in their attempt to keep their race as pure in both bloodline and culture as possible.
