Homebrew Alân Species Details

Slender yet Sturdy

Alâns sport a slim, tall build, 7 feet in height, not including the antennae, their arms appearing skinny and weak, but the exoskeleton giving a firm chiseled form. They have rather incredible strength, with the weakest being able to lift close to 4 times their weight with ease, and up to 16 times with training. that being said, they do not weigh much, typically weighing in at 40-50 pounds

Chitin and Chlorophyll

Alâns have a hard exoskeleton on their torso as well as on their chin, with fleshy, humanoid arms and antennae on top of their head. The shell is a more pale bluish green hue, and the skin is a saturated green due to the chlorophyll in their cells, their appearance helps them blend into the lush plains they hail from. Their eyes are large, circular, deep black, and have small nostrils on their round, flat head.

An Oak's best friend

There has not yet been a recorded event of an Alân dying of old age. and their oldest members are well into their thousands with little to no signs of aging, only wear from being alive so long. Alâns have a far more patient view of time, and can watch centuries pass in what feels like months.  Alâns are born and live more closely to plants than they do creatures, born from seeds homogenous to their parent, so it is very rare that Alâns appear differently, as their process is more similar to cloning than breeding. An Alân is typically fully grown at around a year or 2 old. There is no gender in their species, an Alân is an Alân. Their biology puts them in tune with nature, valuing its preservation alongside their own inventiveness

Grassland Colonies

The Alâns live in colonies in great grassy plains, with tall, chitin armored buildings that blend into the grasslands. The buildings within are roofless, allowing direct sunlight and rainwaters for the Alân. To any outsider, colonies are damp and dirty and many comment on the walls that seem to be alive themselves. These constructs contain colonies of Alâns that average around 300 members. They steer clear of conflict, for they are above it, rather everyone plays their part for the good of the colony. Invention is the prime directive of these colonies and the technology within typically outclasses all other kingdoms, though it is kept to themselves. Visitors are uncommon, but welcomed to a degree as the Alân stay away from alliances and rivalries that would threaten progress. A colony is planted by a founder, which is an Alân capable of producing seeds, which when born takes a name of his own choosing and is sent out to make a new colony in the name of progress.

Names

Alâns do not have conventional naming processes, rather a numbering system consisting of two numbers, their colonies name according to its founder's name, followed by their seed number. For example, if the Founder's name is Ca'tu, and they are their 230th child, they would be named Ca'tu-230, the number spoken in the Nâlish tongue.

Founder Names: Ca'tu, Ra'lo, Li'ma, Go'na, Ta'ta, Ga'ni, Ro'li, Ka'tusu, Rato'lu, Ta'so, Suma'tu
