Homebrew Chupacabra (Cryptid/Goat Sucker) Species Details

Chupacabra are an indigenous race found within the Underdark.  Although they are not naturally a solitary creature, they tend to survive better when alone.  This is because when they are found out, other races tend to exterminate them.  Chupacabra are not known for their culture.  In fact, they really only know how to scavenge from other races.  Specifically, their livestock.  They stalk their easy prey in the distance, and then the attack and kill before anyone knows they were there.  In the Underdark, if you're capable of husbandry, the chupacabras are considered to be a pest that needs to be exterminated immediately.

Unknown to most, the chupacabras are intelligent creatures.  They mature quickly, but they are able to think for themselves and speak with other beings.  They simply aren't given much chance, as they follow the rural flocks they eat from.  It's a simple life of eating blood during the night and resting during the day; that is until they are rooted out by flock herders.  On one fateful night, a family of chupacabras found an entrance to the material world.  They discovered many flocks of these white furry creatures known as "sheep", and they could hunt them with the greatest of ease.  The chupacabras fed, multiplied, and then scattered before the human sheep herders could figure out what happened.

They now are everywhere where there are livestock.  They still raise their young with great care and try to instill some intelligence, but too soon the young are off to make their own way in the world, leaving the parents to start over again.  When too many chupacabras occupy one area, the local farmers tend to pull their resources and pay for an exterminator.  Many chupacabras have died at the blade of an adventurer without the world ever knowing that their race was capable of thoughts and feelings.
