Homebrew Chitrin Blurwing Species Details

Chitrin have insectile features and blade like arm appendages Their bodies are encased by a hard shell of protective chitin and they have a natural resistance to acid. 

Chitrin mainly speak through the act of telepathy or in an odd clicking and clattering language of their own creation, but have been known to learn other languages. Chitrin without a Brood Mother generally die but some gain a relative sentience that expands over time eventually becoming their own 'person'.

Only one blurwing exists per colony and it is only born once the colony has reached its highest standing. Blurwings are consorts to the broodmothers, and their closest confidants. Well versed in all of the broodmothers knowledge they seek to find more and guide her will more actively outside of the colony. When a blurwing dies it is said that the entire colony mourns for ten days and ten nights, then ravages the lands responsible doubly so.

One With The Weave. Blurwings are well versed in arcana and have a unique connection to the weave that allows them to dispel and counter magical attacks by shifting it with the beating of their magical wings. 

Several Faces. Blurwings each have their own unique personalities, based on the colony they came from. Ranging from curious scholars, to secluded studiers, charismatic diplomats or even bloodthirsty tyrants. The birth of a blurwing is considered the end and beginning of an age to the chitrin.

One Mind, Many Hearts. The blurwing holds absolute authority over the hive, and brings new emotion to it. Sentience amongst blurwing colonies is almost a guarantee even down to the lowliest worker. 

Noble Birth. As they are born to rule blurwings are made with a staggering emotional and practical intelligence. The saying "born into greatness" is fitting for these winged monarchs.

Your Charisma score increases by +2 and your Intelligence score increases by +1.

You can speak read and write Chitrin (Thri-Kreen dialect for the sake of language selection) and Common.

Life Span

The typical life span of a Chitrin in its den is anywhere from 30-50 years. Once a Chitrin has gained sentience and abandoned its den it generally has a 40 year life expectancy. Chitrin mature fully only days after their birth. 

Height and Weight

Chitrin of a higher category are always of medium size or larger.

Chitrin Blurwing Traits

As a chitrin player character, you have the following traits.

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Magic Shell

You can cast the Mage Armor spell a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, recharging on a long rest.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of yourself as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.

Flight

You having a flying speed equal to your walking speed.

Acid Resistance

You have resistance to acid damage.

Reduced Chitrin Hive Telepathy

You can use telepathy, magically transmitting your thoughts mentally to willing creatures within 30 ft. of yourself. A contacted creature doesn’t need to share a language with you, but must be able to understand at least one language. The telepathic link is broken if the distance between you is more than 30 ft., if either of you are incapacitated, or if either of you mentally breaks the contact (no action required).

Magic of the Colony

You know the Acid Splash cantrip and can cast it at will. Additionally you can cast the Absorb Elements (the absorbed damage becomes acid damage for you no matter the triggering damage type) spell once per day recharging on a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability modifier for these spells.
