Homebrew Animated Stuffed Toy Species Details
Animated Stuffed Toys are often the product of a low tier spell cast by the most novice of magic hands, along with animated brooms, chairs, and so on. This particular animated object is special, born of a source of magic that's hard to comprehend. Some would say its magic pulled from the dream realm, some would say a kind of love or hope based divinity. While others would claim that its just a very sophisticated form of transmutation, possibly infused with chaos. The truth is, they'd all be right, to some degree. They are loved, played with, enjoyed, and called upon for protection for years, sometimes, for generations. These objects have more in common with a demi-god than a simple animated chair because these Animated Stuffed Toys are born from childlike worship.
The Immortal Friend
Animated Stuffed Toys are small stuffed toys such as plushies or dolls that can move and speak on their own, their fluff and pieces of cloth seemingly unburdened by gravity. While they have no physical presence inside them, they function just like any other person would. They can be stylized to resemble any kind of animal or person. Their weight and size, as well as their design and material, are up to their creator. While sturdy cloth is most often used, stuffed toys composed entirely of canvas or animal skins are not uncommon.
Though they may not have any sensory organs whatsoever, magic ensures that they can perceive what is around them. They can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste just as well as a human can. They can speak as well, magic guiding their artificial consciousness. Their cloth acts as their skin, and any damage inflicted upon their exterior is taken as damage to what would be their physical form. Should they sustain enough damage, the spell holding their stitching together will dissipate, leaving them to fall apart completely.
Animated Stuffed Toys are very unlikely to leave their owner's side and have an intense sense of loyalty to their owner.
Super Sleepy
Animated Stuffed Toys have a very messy sense of time and history. They tend to only remember events from the time they were first gifted and awakening in the form of emotional spikes. This is due to the condition of their awakening, a child gripping the toy during a lightning storm and begging for it to stop may be a sharp memory for the Animated Stuffed Toy. These memories could be gapped by years, decades, or even generations. Regardless, Animated Stuffed Toys take matters of others fear, joy, hope and terror very seriously.
The Journey
Life for an immortal stuffed toy is hard, though the world is big and full of wonder to behold, the bond between toy and child is extremely strong. Nearly all animated toys decide to journey into the dream realm when their owner dies in hopes of reincarnation into another toy if they were not gifted away before the time of death. A very small fraction of Animated Stuffed Toys born of sorrow, sadness and terror seek vengeance for the untimely passing of their owner, usually helping mistreated children until they run our of fluff.
Stuffed Toy Names
Typically a Stuffed Toy is given a name by a very young child, in some cases, the name makes no sense at all or is completely on the nose, such as a stuffed bunny being called, bunny.

Posted May 9, 2024This is just what I was looking for. My daughter has been reading the Threadbare books by Andrew Seiple, so she wanted to know if we could make the golem teddy bear into a character.
