Homebrew Awkaiser Species Details

 A very unique race, the Awkaiser (Aw-Kie-Zer) is an aquatic race that is fairly humanoid with scaley skin and webbed hands and feet. Their scales can mimic that of other creatures skin, giving them the powerful ability to look like other races at will. Unfortunately, this camouflage ability can only if the Awkaiser is completely dry. They are passive by nature but very territorial. With both lungs and gills, they can breathe for a limitless amount of time both on land and not, making them Amphibians. Another amphibian trait they possess is that of being cold blooded, and temperatures that are too hot or cold for them could be there demise. The Awkaiser race came to be when a young Triton brought a rare artifact home after exploring the waters around them. The artifact, having been made by the sea gods themselves, had a mesmerizing quality. This rendered any marine animal that came close to it addicted to it's presence. Over time, those who remained close to the Awkaiser's modern appearance. This led the marine biologists of the Forgotten Realms to theorize that the Awkaiser to be similar in appearance to that of the real sea gods. This theory has not been proven. When in their natural aquatic form, the Awkaiser look largely humanoid, with scales of varying colors and often with fins or tentacles in place of hair, a trait that along with their webbed feat and hands, both assist with swimming and disappear upon changing their scales to look like a different race. Unlike the webbing in the feet and hands which seem to simply retract on command, the fins/tentacles in place of hair also manages to change the scales look and texture. While in rare cases this results in a perfectly convincing and normal hair construction, most the time this ends in unique hair styles that feel abnormal to the touch. If you are adventuring and spot a human, elf, orc, or something of the like that has a unique hairstyle that is highly temperamental about allowing their hair to be touched by anyone, they are likely an Awkaiser. Another good way to indicate if one of the people who walk among you is an Awkaiser is to see if they are okay with touching water. If the accused is an Awkaiser with nothing to hide they will touch the water and, as stated before, the part of their body that became wet will revert to it's scaley self. If the accused is an Awkaiser avoiding detection, as some Awkaisers do, they will avoid touching the water. As stated above, the the Awkaiser is peaceful by nature, only attacking if attacked first. However the race is temperamental and can clasify almost anything that harms them in almost any way as an attack.

Awkaiser Traits

They can at will change their skin to look like a different race, with the drawbacks that the race must be skin or scale based (i.e. no warforged) and that they revert to their original scaley selves upon getting wet.
