Homebrew Woodster Species Details

Woodsters are humanoids with long fingers and flowering twigs for hair, who talk the same way trees have talked if they knew how to talk. Their skins tend toward greens and browns, with random dark brown lines running across their body. Their skin seems as hard as a bison's, and their legs are short in comparison to their giant torsos. Their eyes are big with long eyelashes, and the iris and the pupil are white while the sclera can be on the whole spectrum of colors. They hide in elven forests, living in wide trees and abandoned elven treehouses.

Arborean Refugees

Millions of years ago, a female satyr who sages forgot her name fell in love with a dwarf who accidently wandered into her forest, and he loved her. A powerful fey found out about this, and turned the satyr into a dryad and locked her in Arborea, where the dwarf would probably never get. However, the dwarf was stubborn to find his lost love, and he found a way to arborea, where he found the former-satyr. They had children, and decided to send them to the material plane, to protect them from an evil (who was defeated thousands of years later) who ruled Arborea at the time. The children decided to marry humans and the children they had are what woodsters are today. The humans exiled the children and the children they had from their settlements, and killed the humans they married, leaving the former-satyr-dryad and the dwarf's children and their children to survive the forests. The race developed, and every forest that has or had elves, will have some woodsters in it.

Tree People

Woodsters wander sylvan forests, and usually do not care when someone passes near. They usually do not live in communities but live alone or with family, rarely communicating with other woodsters in the forest. When they meet someone new, they will register all their characteristics in their mind and then talk. they remember almost everything they ever heard, including the tone, the gruffs and stops, and what the saying sounded like. Many of them don't travel far in their lives, staying in a part of the forest and living their regular life there. A woodster's mind always thinks in second-person, calling them in their name and asking themselves in second-person what to do.

Woodster Names

A woodster chooses their own name when they reach adulthood, and don't have a name but called "child", "woodso" or "youngster" until then. They choose their own name as the voice in their mind calls them, which is usually a random mix of consonants and vowels which sounds the most right to the woodster. Therefore, no one can list woodster names. There have been woodsters known as "Trusckug", "Kofmigun", "Mak" and "Voozmyt".

That same number multiplied by the dice roll or quantity given in the Weight Modifier column determines the character’s extra weight (in pounds) beyond the base weight.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your dryad heritage and years of getting used to the darkness of the forest, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Woodster Brains

You gain proficiency in one skill from the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, InsightMedicine, Nature, Perception or Survival.

Magic Resistance

You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Skin Hardening

When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the barkskin spell on yourself only without needing material components once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Semi-Synthesis

If you are at least 1 hour in the sunlight, you need only half of the food a human needs for that day. The effect does not stack up if you stay in sunlight more than 1 hour. This trait doesn't work if your twigs-for-hair are chopped or scorched.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan. Sylvan, the language of the fey, is fairly old, and has changed very little throughout the ages. It flows easily, similarly to Elvish; in fact many linguists believe that the Elvish language is derived from Sylvan. Although it uses the Elvish script, the language is hardly ever written.
