Homebrew Carib 5.0E Species Details

It is said that there was once a small island of humans who became threatened by the growing power of outside forces. Bullying turned to violence, and violence turned to war, but the island's inhabitants had no chance and their opponents were as powerful as they were cruel. As their numbers dwindled and the war transformed into a genocide, a small village of survivors made a pact with the Doresain, King of Ghouls. For the survival of their people they desired to acquire the strength of their enemies, and so the wish was granted. Their bodies were twisted, their souls tainted, and a great hunger filled them soon. When one of the enemy warriors fell in battle and the carib survivors leaped upon him their purpose was finally known, for after the grisly feast which occurred on the still-warm body they gained the warrior's strength. And then another. And another. At the end of only three months the genocide had reversed itself and only the carib remained. They returned to their island, but they continued to hunger, and the hunger did not abate through the generations.

Carib 5.0E Traits

Racial Traits

Healthy Diet

+2 Constitution: Carib have a... healthy diet.

Darkvision

A carib can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and a carib can function just fine with no light at all.

Demon Blooded

Carib count as evil outsiders for the purpose of spells and effects which interact with them whenever beneficial, regardless of their actual alignment or type. For example, a lawful good carib could pick up a +1 unholy longsword and not take negative levels. They may take vile feats or cast evil spells, though doing so may ultimately push their actual alignment towards evil.

Devour

Carib can eat the flesh of humanoid and monstrous humanoids safely, vastly preferring it fresh, warm, and sometimes still screaming. They can eat a meal's worth (such as a strip of flesh) of sentient humanoid in 1 round, or an entire medium sized body in 1 minute, with seemingly no bottom to their endless stomachs. They can even eat bones. When they eat such a creature they gain a Inspiration. roll 1d6 and add it to one of your rolls. Multiple meals overlap, they do not stack. It is a far cry from the originals powers who gained much more from feasting, but still potentially very potent.

Iron Stomach

Carib are hearty and can pull sustenance from uncooked or rotting foods. They gain a +2 bonus on saves against disease and poison & advantage against poison saves

Razor Teeth

The carib have a powerful bite attack which deals 1d8 damage, with a 18-20/x2 critical.
They may use this as either a natural or manufactured weapon and thus can gain additional attacks from a high BAB.
The bite may also be enhanced as a manufactured weapon. Those with the ability to use unarmed strikes may use either their unarmed strike damage or their bite damage, whichever is higher.

The Hunger

The hunger to eat sentient flesh bores away at all carib of adult age.
While a carib can survive on a human diet (with a notable preference for raw and rare meats), they really wish to consume the flesh of sentient humanoids and monstrous humanoids.
If a carib goes more than a week without partaking in at least 1 meal worth of sentient flesh, they take a -1 penalty to attack rolls, skill checks, and saving throws.
This penalty is cumulative, to a maximum of -5 after 5 weeks. Eating reduces the penalty by 1 (minimum 0).
If the carib eats in excess (such as consuming an entire medium sized corpse) they can survive an additional 1d3 weeks before the hunger kicks in again, and/or reduces the penalty by 1d3 points.

Languages

Caribs can speak Common normally with a 2nd language choice of either Undercommon, Abyssal, or Infernal
