Homebrew Xenix Species Details

Crawling through the ground, hunting, gathering. Thus is the life of a Xenix, an insectoid race of sentient beings that very few have ever seen. Due to the xenophobia of most organic vertebrates, the Xenix have learned to live in seclusion, fearing an attack out of ignorance and fear.
The Xenix reside in underground tunnel colonies and build large spires jutting out of the ground as a continuation of their hives. They are a matriarchal species, their culture centering around the Queen who oversees it all. When a Queen is close to death or feels like her life is or will come to be threatened, she will lay a special royal larva that will stay dormant until it feels the need to start its life as a juvenile Queen.
The Xenix as a species don’t only live for survival alone like most other insects. They live lives just as a normal sentient organic being, with jobs, goods, trading, entertainment. They make tools, weapons, furniture, everything a normal organic being would think.
Unfortunately not much else is known about the Xenix. Will you help teach the world, or will you prove the xenophobia right?

There in the walls!

Due to your multiple appendages and life in a colony underground, you are no stranger to climbing walls and tunnels. Because of this you have a climbing speed of 30. Additionally the famed strength of insects is not lost on you. Your strength allows you to stick effortlessly on walls and suspend from ceilings. Finally because you have 4 arms, you may use 2 of them to grab a surface you are climbing and use an action with your other 2 arms such as but not limited to; shoot a bow, block and swing a sword, or carry something or someone.

Carapace Armor

Similar to beetles, ants and other insects, your body is covered in a strong, hard, dense exoskeleton. Unfortunately that makes wearing armor and using shields a bit difficult. As long as you aren’t wearing armor or using a shield, your AC is 13+DEX.

Piercing Appendages

You are an insectoid, you have many things about you that vertebrates would consider strange. One such are the spikes arms on your back. Almost wing-like, the muscles beneath your carapace are constantly primed and ready to strike with lightning speed. When they find their mark, they pierce through flesh, stone, even metal. You deal 2d6 damage with your unarmed strike.
