Homebrew Aquians Species Details

Possibly the most unique and strange of all the Races, the Merfolk live on the border of Humanoid and Monstrosity. They inhabit the oceans of the world but most of their settlements have been built in fjords and on the many islands of the Weald. Their split forms were gifted to them by the Sea God Neptur so they could escape the Splitting and live surrounded by the calming waters. They are some of the most religious people and take great care in the worship of their god. Despite this, they are also patrons of the arts and knowledge. They founded some of the most prestigious schools in the world of The Ashen Weald. It’s not rare to see an Aquian that has settled on land and in cities away from water, but even more common are Aquians that have never dared to step on land, or do not dare stray too far from their oceanside homes.

At first glance, Aquians in their landform do not seem any different than a human. They come in all types of skin colors and are some of the most diverse people in the land. The only thing that seems to point them out are their webbed hands and feet. They also have small gills on the side of their bodies. In their Ocean Form, they are almost unrecognizable. Their gills expand and their bodies grow scales. These scales can be a multitude of different colors ranging from fiery red to ultraviolet. Their legs grow into fish tails and fins extrude from their arms and back. They seem almost monstrous with their fish-like appearance, but despite these traits, they still need to come up for air once in a while, otherwise, they might drown.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and your Constitution Score increases by 1.

Age.  Aquians have the longest lifespan of any native Kahonian race. They reach maturity at age 30 and can live to 500.

Alignment. Most Aquians are Lawful.

Size. In both Ocean and Landform, your size is Medium. While on land your average height is 5’5” and while in the ocean your average length is 8 feet.

Speed.  You have a base speed of 30 feet and a swimming speed of 60 feet.

Languages. You can Read, Write, and Speak Kahonin and Fisklin. You can also choose one language of your choice.

Hold Breath

Hold Breath. You can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes on land and 12 hours underwater

One with the Sea

You can communicate with creatures that live in the water. You can also communicate simple ideas with semi-aquatic animals. However, while they can understand your words, you cannot understand them.

Nepturs Blessing

You are able to cast the Spell ‘Create or Destroy Water’ as a cantrip.
