Homebrew Bee Species Details

Hailing from the high trees and cliffs of the world, the bees evoke fear and wonder. The bees have long ruled over the people beneath their hive cities as imperialistic overlords or benevolent rulers — depending on the hive and queen.

Fur and Stinger

Bees are furry beings with two sets of gossamer wings that bear them aloft. Males reach a fourth of an inch, while females can often reach half-an-inch in height. They have slim, lithe frames.

Fur cover their bodies. It's coloration typically comes in red, orange, or yellow. 

Hive Dwellers

Bees typically hail from massive hive cities clinging to the sides of trees or cliffs. Within these honeycombed edifices many bees live their entire lives. They travel between the levels of their city, from section to section, but never leaving. To other bugs, this seems a boring life. But to the bees, it is a happy life in service to their community. For if their was one thing that most bees held dear... it is family and community. 

It takes a great deal to entice a bee to leave their hive for longer than a week. Often such journeys are reserved for times of war or to check on their landbound vassals. Instead, bees would love little more than to remain amongst friends and perfecting their craft within the hive.

 

Chivalric Traditions

The bees boast a long history of knightly orders. These orders make up a large number of their military might across the many kingdoms of the bees. These orders are reserved exclusively for female bees — for males lack the strength or skill to server in such prestigious orders.

Bee Traits

As a bee, you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others. As a result, playing an bee requires special consideration by your DM.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

Bees reach maturity by age 3. Compared to ants, aarakocra don’t usually live longer than 30 years.

Alignment

Most bees are good and their fierce loyalty to the hive and their queen leads them to be lawful.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Flight

Because of your wings, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can’t use this flying speed if you’re wearing medium or heavy armor.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Bee and one language of your choice representing the language of one of your hives vassals.
