Homebrew Ashborn Species Details

Ashborns are the result of an egg mutation, they aren't quite as strong or fearsome as a phoenix, but they still share many traits.  They have large, bright orange feathers that cover their entire body and head.  Their voice doesn't range too far from other Ashborn voices, typically being screechy and loud that are able to knock a sense of fear into most they speak to, just as long as they're trying to be intimidating.  An Ashborn will keep pursuing the mission they were given at birth, no matter how many lifetimes it takes, therefore they have wide tracts of knowledge from history.  An Ashborn can tell you about the Great War, or about their great, great, great grandfather, when it comes to history, an Ashborn is the best person to ask about it.

Ashborns are very prideful.  Attempting to talk down to one will surely lead to a target on your back for as long as you live.  It doesn't matter if you really are superior to them, they demand that they will be treated with nigh royal status.

Life After Death

If an Ashborn dies of natural causes or gets sick, they

turn into a pile of ash, from which they will resurrect

from the ashes when the time is right. However an

Ashborn does not simply just forget their old lives, no.

An Ashborn will get a revelation just before they gain

sentience, revealing everything that happened before.

A grudge can be held forever for an Ashborn.

Lucky Chance

Ashborns are created the same way a phoenix,

but there is a very rare chance for something to

go wrong in the egg and turn into an Ashborn

instead.  Whether it be a curse or just simply luck,

there isalways the off-chance to become

something way off from the expected result.

Fire Flows Through

Despite being different from their phoenix

relatives, fire is a major part of an Ashborn’s life.

Whether it be a bonfire or a raging forest fire,

they seek comfort in the warmth and familiarity

of the red and orange flame.

Ashborn Traits

Your Ashborn character has a variety of flaming abilities, the aftermath of a legendary creature giving life to a lesser being.

Ability Score Increase

You can increase your strength modifier by 2, or your 2 highest modifiers by 1.

Age

Ashborn start as an egg, where they mutate in the egg, turning into an Ashborn.  They reach maturity at about 35, but can live up to 120 years, however, when an ash born reaches their maximum age, they turn into a pile of ash, where they resurrect at a time that is safe enough for a newborn.

Alignment

Similarly to humans, they do not lean towards an alignment, but their experiences around them mold who they are currently.

Size

Ashborns are large, standing at about 8 feet tall, 230 pounds and a wingspan of 6 feet.  Your size is large.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 and you have 25 flying speed, flying speed is hindered by -10 if wearing heavy armor.

Fireproof Feathers

You have resistance against fire damage as long as a large portion of your feathers are undamaged.  If about half of your feathers are somehow plucked or damaged, you lose this effect.

Long History

You gain proficiency in the History skill due to the fact that you have lived many lives.

Intimidating Presence

Because you are incredibly big compared to many higher-intelligence races, you can easily mentally overpower anyone you desire, gain proficiency in Intimidation.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common, you are also able to speak to avian creatures.
