Homebrew Barv Species Details

A kind yet silly people. tolerated by many and ignored by most.

Nobody really knows the origins of these people. Some theories say that the first barvs were simply lanky outcasts of different races who joined together in the swamps to survive the loneliness.

They are a quiet folk and once you get them to talk they can barely be understood.

Even though they are a humanoid race, they're more often compared to frogs than anything else for some odd reason.

Barvs can be found in the swampy marshlands, far from civilisation. These friendly creatures often proves more friend than foe. They can be identified by their tall and lanky shapes with big feet and hands.

Friendly

Although the barvs mostly keep to themselves once you've befriended one, they'll almost always be loyal for life. They'll almost always do what you ask them to do, even though it may be against their own interests.

Thick skin

The barvs are known for their incredible patience and can endure an amazing amount of insults and bullying without getting aggressive. At most they'll mutter something under their breath. People have theorized that barvs actually often do get very sad, and that they're almost always crying on the inside.

EVERYONE'S SECOND-BEST FRIENDS

Since they're not very aggressive and easily used by others, most races gets along with the barvs and often find them useful for their lack of negative criticism and willingness to sacrifice themselves for you. Although it's easier for another race to befriend a barv, than it is for a barv to befriend a member of a different race.

Elves. “W-well, they're attractive and scary..." *mutters something illegible under breath*

Halflings. “Th-they're so tiny... and scary."

Humans. “I guess they're ok... but scary."

Natural cowards

Barvs are always nervous and are seldom confident. They are very easy startled and scared of most things. Though strangely enough they are very quick to accept their own deaths and often see it as a better solution to most problems.

Religion

Most barvs follow the teachings of Jesus Crisp.

Common phrases and annoying sounds

Most barvs have catchphrases in the style of: "He-he-here we go!" and "Jesus Crisp, this is amazing.". When faced with danger and stress most barvs gives out a short quiet yell that most people find very annoying.

Barv names

Since the barvs are lacking in creativity, their names are mostly variations of their race. When they reach adulthood they gain a surname based on their appearance. They see no point in categorizing names by sex and gender.

Barv Names: Birv, Borv, Burv, Borva, Barvorino, Brav, Jakob, Birva, Barvas, Barrrrrrrv, Barvet.

Barv surnames: Bigears, Longlegs, Smelly, Toll, Shaky, Roundnose.

The barvs are tall and lanky with long legs and large hands and feet. They often have wild spiky hair.

Age

Barvs reach adulthood in their late teens and theoretically live less than a century. Very few barvs die of natural causes.

Alignment

Almost all barvs are good natured. An evil barv is very rare.

Size

All barvs are tall and lanky. They range from around 6 - 8 feet tall (2 - 2,4 m). Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Despite your long legs, your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

Barvs speak barvish, which is basically common, but more difficult for other races to understand.
